Saw him at the Filllmore East October 1969. Lonnie Taylor on Bass, Tim Davis on drums. He opened for Mountain. Mountain was loud. Steve was awesome. Lonnie wore blue high top sneakers.

I was introduced to Steve by an old girlfriend from San Fransisco, the year was 1968. I was a hick from a mountain town in Oregon. I just want to take the time to thank her.

I was introduced to Steve by an accountant in copper mountain Colorado. The accountant was 24, and worked as a burger chef in a mountain top cabin restaurant. The accountant preferred Wu tang clan. I was a hick from the mountains of southern Australia. The resort forced us to play steve Miller band. I just want to take time to thank the Colorado accountant graduate, who enjoyed gunja as it happens

Saw Steve and the Band one month before Norton’s passing. What a shock! I have seen Steve and various Band combinations since 1972. I tried to get them for a headlining gig at the University of Kentucky. ‘The Joker’ LP had just been released, but the single had not “blown-up” yet. My fellow Student Activity Board Committee members did not confirm my nomination because, and I quote, “Each song on the album sounds like a different band.” WTF?!?! I foolishly interpreted this ability to express a well-played variety of musical styles as a sign of experience, a dedication to the craft, and freakin’ talent, but what did I know? At least two of Steve’s shows, which I have attended at different times in his career, are in my Top Ten Concert Experiences. The SMB can deliver. I saw him before he was a star and he and the bBand were b phenomenal. Nearly two decades later, I caught him at a massive outdoor show, with no opening act, and they commanded the the twilight. He opened solo on 12-string guitar and did three songs. Two the songs were ones he co-wrote with Tim Davis for ‘Italian X-Rays’. With each succeeding number Steve brought out another band member until the entire Band was onstage and roaring. As twilight became dar, the volume and lighting matched the dimming until Steve was in a single pool of blue light singing a killer “Born to be Blue”. The SAB also passed on my suggestion that we book Bob Seeger when we could get him for $1,750.00 a gig. “Who is this guy from Detroit.” Seeger’s next recorded release was his break-through to Arena Rock. After that smash hit Album $1,750.00 would not even have covered the contract rider clause for Green Room libations. Duane Allman died one month before we finalized negotiations for an SAB appearance. The next year, Berry Oakley died as we were finalizing a contract. Delaney and Bonnie separated and got a divorce as SAB was trying to book them. The bittersweet successes included booking for a Grand Ballroom sell-out gig just prior to his record sales and radio saturation setting him up for arena-level gigs and a hefty uptick in his booking costs. He even left his artist’s test pressing of his ‘WOLD’ LP in our listening area and we obliging drove it to him at his next booked gig. We booked Jimmy Buffet for a free coffee house gig. We flew him up in a private single-engine plane from Florida. He was such a success, we brought him back for a sold-out gig in the Small Meeting Room. He was a solo act. Again, we flew him from Florida in a private piper cub. This success earned him a third gig, but this time he appeared in the Small Ballroom with a second guitarist. Another sold-out show. His next appearance at UK was in the Grand Ballroom. Another sell-out booking, and he brought a two support musicians. They were a guitarist and a bassist, which he labeled The Coral Reefer Band. The private propeller driven aircraft was getting quite full. While in negotiations for a headlining appearance in the on-campus basketball arena, his “Come Monday” single became the biggest summer hit in the USA. Upshot: we could no longer afford Jimmy and the full Coral Reefer Band. Now that’s what I call Music. Keep on Me Rockin’ Baby.

EE here: SAB was booking Harry Chaplin for the Grand Ballroom. We got to kick-back after the gig with Harry. This was after the show and we were all high from the great vibes of Harry’s show and the atmosphere was very congenial. Nice guy! Great audience contact. Superb singer/songwriter. He was gone way too soon, and way too tragically.

"Coming down out of the northwest." Steve Miller was born in Wisconsin but for years made his home in the Applegate valley of southern Oregon. That home has now been placed on the list of historic homes by the Oregon Historical Society for it's beautiful construction. In 1980 while attending an "Old Time Fiddlers" event on the property of Martha Warwick in Williams Oregon, I was shocked when Steve took a seat next to me on a log. Together we enjoyed 2 hours of the "Old Time Fiddlers" music. Over the years I've attended 3 Steve Miller Band concerts, but this meeting is something I will never forget.

saw him in 1974 in conn, snuck out of my prep school risking everything just to hear GOING TO THE COUNTRY, hard-driving electric force, the song singing in my head the whole way there, finally.... and he sat down on the stage and played a slow mellow acoustic version- worse yet- later during another song he stopped in the middle of it and told some people to shut up! what a let down in concert, here too.

I’ll stick with Steve Miller. He sings and writes his own songs. It’s called Talent. Something performers used to have. I can’t even call them musicians because very few play anything anymore. Who knew our Culture would degenerate so much? With the exception of Jack White, I’m ignoring the rest because it’s disposable. Now Steve Miller I’ve been listening to for years and his music never disappoints me. Quality holds up! Rock On! Steve “Guitar” Miller! 👏🏻🎸😎
