I heard this song in the background somewhere in 1993 (at the age of 19) and really liked it. I was an agnostic at the time and didn't really pay attention to the lyrics. I went to the record store near Central Michigan University and picked up SCC's Live Adventure disc. I listened to it in one sitting and was moved to tears. When I finally listened to the lyrics of The Great Adventure, I thought to myself, "I don't think I could ever be a Christian, but if I ever do - I want to be the 'Great Adventure' kind." On March 20th of 1994, I finally met Jesus and was born again. I called the only Christian I knew, my uncle Dennis, and he invited me to church. My uncle told me to bring my guitar! On Easter Sunday of 1994, I had the privilege of sharing my personal testimony in song - and of course, it had to be SCC's music! As a bonus, I might add, that was the same day I met the woman who would later become wife, who was a young adult leader there at the time. I have to give SCC some credit again - I know I scored lots of points with her while we were dating playing songs like "I Will Be Here" and "Go There With You". :) 25 years later, I'm a pastor, worship leader, still married to the love of my life, and will never forget how God has used Steven to change my life forever. May God continue to bless Steven, his family, and his ministry.

Amazing ADVENTURE, brother. YOUR story brought tears to my eyes!!! I was fortunate to meet SCC twice; once in a small, Christian bookstore during a private meet and greet / Q&A .. and, years later, backstage after his concert. He's a powerhouse of the Holy Spirit, wrapped up in a short guy who LOVES and owns Harley Davidson's motorcycles where he goes for long (extended) rides with his neighbor and fellow, touring musician Geoff Moore .. a guy who also partners with the Chapmans on Showhope. Inspirational, all around.

As a middle aged Mom I found this spirit filled young musician to be God-Driven, so I purchased his album. My first CD that I remember playing as loud as I could with my sons on our way to school each morning. We had a blast praising the Lord, singing great lyrics, and smiling because we all felt connected on a much greater level. My sons are born-again Pastors now. Married, g'children, and no regrets. Our God is an awesome living God! Thank you SCC for living your calling, through hills and valleys, etc... God has got our back! AMEN!

I don't typically listen to Christian music though I grew up with it, including SCC and Michael W Smith. I recently bought my first house and just before we closed on the house, The Great Adventure played in my head as I woke up. I haven't listened or hear this song in many, many years. The second I heard it playing, I knew something special was beginning with this house.

I have always admired SCC. Some many of his songs are just real life stuff. I rarely comment on KZbin but felt compelled. I just realised that Great Adventure speaks of the Christian life being that .. an adventure .. valleys & peaks. I'm sure he had no idea of little Marie being taken and that he would be living this song .. and on the morning of that tragedy came Cinderella. I don't THINK he wrote it in direct response but rather a story about bath time and trying to hurry things up rather than living the moment. Thank God for SCC, his family and the music God has brought from him.
@baldiny5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Cinderella was written before the tragedy of losing Maria, but was written after a trying evening of trying to get his little girls settled down when Steven had his mind on so many other things. He felt God's inspiration that those days were sweet and short. His eldest daughter Emily became engaged not too long afterward, and then Maria went home to the Lord.

I believe the first CCM album I bought after becoming a believer in 1990 was SSC's "For The Sake of The Call", and I was instantly hooked on SCC. When I first heard his song "The Great Adventure", I was so excited that Steven had come out with a new album. I think I bought it on cassette (one-track repeat was a little harder to do back then; grateful for that feature on streaming. LOL). It has long been one of my all-time favorite songs, and by one of my favorite all-time songwriters. In 2019, after living in North Carolina for 17 years, the Lord told my wife that we needed to prepare to move. It would be two years before it became clear that He was preparing us to move to middle Tennessee. In addition to this, as we were getting the house ready to sell, He led me to hand in my job notice without a clear prospect of employment where we were going. The morning I was intending to give notice, I was nervous - I had been at the same workplace for 10 years. Knowing I was nervous, He reassured me that morning when I heard Him whisper three words... "The Great Adventure" I was at my work desk in my home office, so I looked up the video and lyrics again. It spoke directly to the situation I was in, WORD for WORD, as well as to a deep longing in my heart. At that point, any nervousness I had was gone. He reminded me once again that there is nothing better than to be in relationship with the Creator of the Universe, who is true Love personified. Over the last 30 years, my wife and I have been involved in various forms of ministry (worship ministry being the main one) on a volunteer basis. There have been both mountains and valleys, but on the other side of all those experiences, we wouldn't change any of it. He has helped us see that everything we go through in our lives, is ultimately preparation for something amazing down the road. Just like the song says, we are on the ride of our lives. It's a little crazy at times, but I wouldn't have it ANY... OTHER... WAY. "This is the greatest journey that the human heart will ever see/ the love of God will take us far beyond our wildest dreams" Thanks Steven for your example of authenticity, and for the music you've shared with us over the years. Blessings on you and all your family.

I heard the original version of this song just a month ago. I've been a Christian for 29 years...... "how could this be?" I say to myself that I've never heard it played on KTIS? I have to say it is one of the "funnest" Christian songs that makes me want to dance all around the living room (and I'm 60!) 😄. When I'm singing at the top of my lungs, "through the wild blue yonder of God's Amazing Grace" the tears come. It hits me every time and I don't even know why. It's such a beautiful verse, (like when I sing about Jesus coming out of the clouds) I choke up in reverence to our Mighty King. I do have to say the old version has a beat that trump's the new version (however, now there's something for everyone). That rock and roll version just gets me smiling so big and brings such joy. I can feel the Lord giggling with joyfulness at the sight of his daughter singing at the top of her lungs Praising HIM. When I'm feeling down, I put this song on and it lifts me up. Thank you Lord for inspiring the words and beat to this song, and having this man and his band sing it.

I posted on the original video page, but it bears repeating: At our Messianic congregation just west of Denver, last Saturday, we were saying goodby to Carl and Glenda who can no longer come up the mountain (less oxygen) because of health challenges. Carl has been an elder in cowboy boots, leather vest and a prayer shawl, sang on the worship team in his 70s, and they both were there at the beginning of the congregation. It was so sad to see them go, but as we were closing up a prayer time and blessing them, Terry in the sound booth fired up the original video on the big screen. I couldn't take my eyes off our sweet elder and his wife, as he took her into his arms and danced a careful swing dance, twirling her gently, bride and groom, and then they rode off into the sunset, and the adventure of finding a new congregation who we hope will love and cherish them as much as we do. So I went to the original video to make that comment and found a link on the side to this one. Love it even more -- the continuity of life, the reminders of peaks and valleys, the joys of family and friends. This. This.
