This was very valuable. I have watched a few interviews you have done, I have gone on your website and browsed your dissertation. I am so grateful that you took that psychologist's advice to use your experience to help so many people including myself. I was born into a cult and didn't realize how much healing I still needed to do despite me not being active for several years. Thank you again!!!

A book on combatting cult mind control, this guy is actually a real amazing badass, an individual or a group of people can fall prey to logical fallacies, emotions and charismatic individuals but with resources, the bleak situations can be improved

Thankful to find this. Thank you. I was raised Mormon and left the church at 19, I am 42 now and still dealing learning and coping with the mindset wiring and entanglements involved with be. I being raised in the church and "undue influence" of power structures.

Right there with ya sister. I come from original Pioneer stock, mid-1800s with ancestors who stood shoulder to shoulder with JS and BY. Multi/trans generational occultism is so incredibly difficult to break. Fortunately we have a huge community of like-minded people out there :)

I LOVE that I found this video. I left the Mormon cult about 2 years ago and I went through a total journey of self-creation - I had to start from scratch, because as a Mormon born into the culture, my identity WAS being LDS. It's so amazing to see my process that I went through detailed in such a concise, clear manner. I have decided to go back to school in psychology, and this video reinforces that desire. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this information. It is now my goal to get my children out of the cult. (They, along with my ex-husband) are still in - and I desire to awaken them in the most gentle way possible, giving them total free will and choice. I look forward to buying your books. Once again, I am grateful for the work you have done. It paves the way for others to rejoice in newfound freedom like I have. Namaste.

+yarntwisted Different types of Cults Destructive Cults and semi good Cults. Pyramid of control like LDS from top down meets almost all of BITE model for determining a Cult. Only thing they pass on is it large group. Control your behavior yes LDS do this. Control your information yes they do this. Control your thoughts yes they do this. Control your emotions yes they do this. Control your food consumption no wine or beer or even coffee wow. Control your dress yes in Temple, garments, black and white suits. Control your time yes missionary work, callings, Sunday. Control and distort information they clearly do this, no mention Joseph used gun in Carthage jail and killed two people and wounded a third. LDS are as persecuted as much Warren Jeffs the FLDS leader who is sitting in jail. bookofmormonbookoflies.com wivesofjosephsmith.org How about the video Joseph and His wife Emma no mention about other 39 LOL. More study I do more I shake my head. Control your prayer!

+yarntwisted I am in a Facebook support group for spouses that have left with one spouse still in the group. I cannot tell you how much pain is being caused the the cult-like aspects of the the LDS church. Divorce, depression and suicide are constant subject matter of daily conversations. Many if not most of us were indoctrinated since birth starting with primary then baptism and all the levels of the church up to the temple-marriage. I found out many of us blame ourselves for our Fd up marriages because if we would have woken up earlier we would have never been in this hell that we find ourselves. Many that have mentally left are still trapped because of fear of losing loved ones and children. One look at the amount of psychiatric medication, depression and suicide here in Utah and you know there is something seriously wrong. in the LDS church many times they say, "By their fruits ye shall know them"... and I say YES... look at these fruits... they are not good!

I think this is great because even if you decide to stay in LDS at least you will have chance at knowing the cues used by members. What ward do you belong to is one lol. Those are gentiles do not listen to them non tithing payers. You would not know Mormonism because your not LDS listen to me LOL

I was in Scientology when I was a teenager and young man. I was apparently so brainwashed that I did not realize it until lately, thanks to these videos. I did experience some benefits from scientology, though they would be possibly derived from life anyway.

Regarding music, fortunately the JW music wasn't very catchy and quite difficult to sing, so I never remembered a single song. The trigger for me is walking past the JW buildings, seeing people in the street that are still in the cult, seeing them preaching by their carts. It's like being young and walking past an ex boyfriend or girlfriend that broke your heart and you don't know how to react, whether to pretend you don't notice them or even care, or whether to say "Hi", but your heart beats faster anyway. I can't imagine what it's like for those who pass family members that can't speak to them due to shunning.
@exjwconfessions6 жыл бұрын
As the youngest member of entirely devoute JW family, I know what the bad family aspect is like. When I see JW stuff, it does not feel like an ex girlfriend etc. It’s like seeing members of a gang that committed terrible crimes against you, but For some bad and unjust reason, the police can’t or won’t do anything about it. So you get no justice. No closure. No sense except anger and rage and disillusionment with institutions, relationships, anything about it.

When you are ready, you will look at them in the eyes without fear, anger or pity, but as another human being that you have never seen before. Learn stress management techniques to help you deal with the uncomfortable feelings if you live in a small town, but better speak with a therapist with experience in these issues.

Hi Steven - when you upload videos it is likely possible to select the setting "with automatic subtitles - closed captions". I never upload videos but many youtube videos offer the option to turn on subtitles or transcript. The automatic ! transcript resp. the subtitles one can get are not too bad - for vidoes I found important or for interesting text quotes, I sometimes work with the text proposal edit it and post it under the comments, so I know. For persons who do not hear well, that might be a help, too. (I noted that most videos that have discernible speech do give that option and only some not, so I assume it is a matter of settings).

It's difficult for me to think of the name Jehovah as a trigger word but it is. I have to start thinking of him as just heavenly father instead yet I've been calling him Jehovah so long it's become an endearing name to me that I tend to feel I'm taking things out on him even though it's a name used in other religions and the Bible. I'm going to have to go back to what I've called him in the past before I joined the jw. Cult. In my mind I hope he forgives me. I'm sure he will of course. Anyway I didn't realize that was a trigger until you br ought it out.

49:51 Well, that is a good exercise for someone who joined a cult, for someone who was raised in one it isn't. I knew I didn't want to be there, but there was NOTHING I could say that would stop my mother from dragging me to the meetings. So, no knowledge would've helped, only moving away from her. If I had anyone who would've adopted me. lol Nothing else.

@xyzsame40817 жыл бұрын
Regarding volume of cult info video. Check out the settings of your computer. Or you can use headphones (be careful when you start out with the full volume turned on ;) - or you install an app like Download Helper - I know it is available for Firefox and likely also for the other browsers in wide user. With that app you can download videos (take notice of the download folder so you will find it after completed download ) and then watch it with VLC media player (or another video player). In these video players you can increase volume more. Volume is a little on the lower side for me, too. Just about acceptable when I turn it on full. For you it may be more practical to install an app that allows download of videos (depends how versed you are as a user and it doesn't make much sense if you have no intention to download in the future). Another trick is to insert two ss before the word youtube in the link, it will then read .ssyoutube etc. When you hit enter you will be redirected to the adress safe from net - that site is O.K., you will not get a virus from their site. They offer you the option to download the video directly in lower quality (no installation of another program needed). Sound will be fine, they just do not provide the high visual quality (for that you would need to subscribe and pay). That does not matter for that presentation though. You can try their site also in case some videos have country restrictions (if you see a BBC video on youtube BY BBC they usually have restrictions on them).
