I have found myself needing to see my Lincoln on DVD, again. It is the political weather that makes me yearn for the kind of Righteous Leaderahip that President Lincoln represented. Steven, and Daniel and the whole CAST has taken America back in time. I am eternally grateful!

I don't know where you get your history lesson from but I've read oddles of books on various historical figures, and Lincoln was NOT a racist. His father rented him out without pay from the time he was 12-21. His father did not give him one cent to make his way in life with. Between working without pay all those years and seeing degrading slave auctions in New Orleans, he was totally turned against slavery. He was an honest & wise man & knew how to play his cards in the political arena.

Mr Spielberg my uncle Joe flew with your dad in ww2. uncle joe was one of 4 brothers who fought in ww2 and their story is so incredible not even you could imagine and your dad is a part of it.I think you should know about it and i have the pictures of the 5 man B25 crew and it's funny how much you look like your dad. This story would ignite a wave of Patriotism unlike any before it's that incredible.They were all from Philadelphia born and raised. Gregg Stoerrle 15 Lloyd ave Cheryhill,NJ 08002

why Lincoln why now, team of rivals. endlessly compelling when i saw his face. their is drama in democracy. get the votes to do the right thing. Daniel wanted a year to prepare for the role. very interesting for wearing a suit for the entire filming. some points from Steven S. it sounds like its going to be another winner. great job.

Lincoln himself was one of the kindest and gentlest people who ever lived, as well as a brilliant political strategist, yet the Comments here mostly consist of viewers bashing and trashing each other in the crudest possible way. Could we please get back to discussing the movie itself?????

document from lincoln: "Second. That the Writ of Habeas Corpus is suspended in respect to all persons arrested, or who are now, or hereafter during the rebellion shall be, imprisoned in any fort, camp, arsenal, military prison, or other place of confinement by any military authority of by the sentence of any Court Martial or Military Commission." But he arrested anyone who did not agree with him and placed Baltimore under martial law for that purpose.

If you do a search for lincoln and the constitution you will find many articles about the way he did ignore the constitution, whether you say he suspended it or simply abused it. For example, Habeas Corpus is a basic part of our constitution and yet lincoln ignored that totally when it pleased him to do so.

Ms Williams, you don't know my ethnicity, so to assume that I am white is a faux pas on your part. I know that Lincoln, before his presidency, was leaning towards sending blacks back to Africa but when stories were filtered back that the former slaves were having a tougher time in Liberia than in slavery, he changed his views.Have you works like, "Black like Me?"Have you toured Howard, Tuskegee Institute, Morehouse, or McHarry, etc? I was reading black writings in my teens & so did my children.

Yes, but you are correct in that we are having an intelligent debate, not a flaming war. That we can both agree on. We can also agree that it grieves us both that the black community is raising a new generation that is ignorant of its indomitable heritage. It's a tragedy; a race of people who, despite the odds, should hang their head high, instead in large part, shun knowing about their own people...& those who helped & those who withdrew their hand. We need a Wall of Remembrance too.

Well, yes I did assume. But now thar i am not sure, iam even more WORRIED!! Let's not waste our time debating about Lincoln anyway. My prolem is that the facts that you and i do know most people don't! Education mostly PROGRAMS! Don't you think we should know all history, not just part of it. Thta's why we are having an intelligent debate instead of a slug fest. You know i am more educated than your average American and know more than i Should! I broke from the PROGRAMMING.

I am not talking about the constitution really at all. I am talking about the acts of Lincoln relative to Habeas Corpus. What else can you call that when he imprisoned the sheriff and mayor of Baltimore as well as citizens who did not agree with him, all without trial or justification of any kind, just as the Japanese were put into camps in WWII. You are arguing what you are taught of the man without research into his diary and true nature as shown in public documents.

I have no real feelings about Lincoln one way or the other but I do hate when truth is sacrificed for the sake of propaganda. The things I mention about lincoln are taken from public, published accounts and the letters and diary of Lincoln himself. Certainly the constitution states that Habeas Corpus can not be suspended but Lincoln ignored that when he arrested the mayor and sheriff of Baltimore and placed Baltimore under martial law or confined southern generals without benefit of trials.

That was his first term and he had to say that to appease fervently racist Southerners just as radical abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens said in The Film he only believed in " equality under the law , not equality in all things " , offending an equally radical Abolitionist colleague . When asked if there was nothing he would not say , he replied " Yes , if it meant the absolute abolishment of slavery from every corner of this earth , there is most nothing I would not say " .

True, his wife's father was a slave owner but Mary Todd Lincoln did not get along well with her father who sired 8 kids with her stepmother. Her Kentucky slave-owning father & stepbrothers (all except one) all sided with the Confederacy. Mary Lincoln stated in public that she hoped they all died horrible deaths for drawing the sword against her husband, Abraham. This comment was thought as very callous by Unionists despite her blood kin fighting in the Confederacy.
@msthewolverine
@msthewolverine 11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I heard of that. But, she said that for drawing the sword against her husband, not for slavery. Think about it. I think everyone should keep an open mind about what I am saying and think about it from a black person's point of view. I think sometimes if most whites could have us back in slavery, YOU WOULD. And wouldnt think twice about it. Your excuses for your ancestors and even grandfathers let's me know that.

Sometimes,despite a good deed, it is the reasoning behind it that tells the real story of the person. I know a great deal about Lincoln and I DO NOT like him. He was a racist, too and did not care aboout the blacks at all. His own wife's father was a rich slave owner. Lincoln was not a man of conviction. I hate those Washington monuments. They were terrorists who Do Not deserved to be honored. Thad Stevens, the Radicals, and the blacks who struggled for freedom deserve them; NOT Lincoln!

Of course I agree that black people have the right to be free. My dislike of this boring movie has nothing to do with that. I like Abe Lincoln as a person and an historical figure but that doesn't change the fact that this movie is BORING.

meh, your goddamn opinion.... You have very little attention span in terms of THESE KINDS OF MOVIES. The acting, the performance and the scenery made everyone in the theatre shut up and watch and just let the movie flow the bio depiction of America's president. Most people find it boring... though majority would just pay attention to how much effort they did to bring Lincoln back to life in the big screen. In other words, "You are a nincompoop, sir!" ^_^
