Whenever I hear Sweet Emotion or Walk This Way I'm always so amazed that they were made in the 70s. It's just impossibly ahead of the times. Seriously what else was that advanced back tne,

The Beatles in the 60s. They had songs that sounded like they could have belonged to the 70s and 80s and a few that are timeless.

I think of music made later by RATT, Motley Crue, Cinderella, Guns N Roses--they were definitely pioneers of that kind of sound, and to a man--all of them admit their influence. Their first disciples in the late 70s were Van Halen

One of the great song writers in Rock history. Aerosmith hit it big in the early 70s, and were still making monster hits in the mid 90s. A lot of songwriters dry up after an album or two, but not Steven Tyler. Oh, and if "Dream On" isnt in your top ten of all time in terms of greatest rock songs ever? Man, youre missing out.

How could Stern not have known this song was written about Perry and his girlfriend. It was common knowledge way back in the 70s when the song came out. Love Tyler's confidence/ ease in revealing his vulnerabilities. Most people me included hides it. Much respect. Rare quality.

I so remember like it was yesterday heading to Madison Square Garden in 1986 to see Aerosmith on their Done With Mirrors tour with Ted Nugent opening up. While driving to the concert and listening to WNEW 102.7 Aerosmith was in the studio live. Steven Tyler told the story about using the sugar packet on Sweet Emotion. So cool to hear him tell it again thirty four years later.

Artist are emotions, they just can't get rid of them because they are too sensitive. They're completely soaked all the time. They don't need to be damaged, at this point, they just need frustration and it's a drama. Howard, don't blame yourself, it's not your fault, you're built differently, that's all. Different personality, different way and levels of emotions. Meditation helps to face them.

So I'm picturing in my mind--Aerosmith's singing a commercial for "Sweet N Low", Stevie's shaking the packet and going "SWEEEEET N LOWWW--SHUN!" Seriously, though: Coolest sugar packet in history. And that vibraslap breaking--a happy mistake that adds drama to the track! Keep in mind, all the great rock songs in history have errors in the mix that were left in. So anyone who thinks that they have to record a perfect rock song to be a classic--YOU DON'T!
