I can’t believe the creators of Steven Universe actually invented time travel just so they could rip off Tiger King.
@vilmublues7522 жыл бұрын
I really like Lion. Magical powers aside, he acts a lot more "realistic" than many other cartoon pets. His expressions are more subdued instead of emoting just like a human. Unlike The Lion King remake, I think him resembling a real animal more makes him more interesting (and mysterious, because he often doesn't care to react to people, like a cat.) He's not the basically-furry-human-on-four-legs like some other cartoon animals who understand every word humans say. But speaking of concept art, if you think Lion is creepy now, the original idea of him was legit scary. He would've been creepy-looking and something other characters found unnerving, often remaining still with a face frozen into an open unnatural grin and having intense eyes that always followed Steven around like those paintings in movies where someone is watching through holes around the eyes.
@thebigmystery78412 жыл бұрын
This is why I like that steven tries to "domesticate" lion, but it always shows lion is very much not a trick pony but an animal that is clearly not a pet to play around with. Its kind of like how those that work with big cats can form speacial bonds where they can hug them and play, but theres no tricks or luving like its just a house pet. Lion does live at the house but he more or less is outside most of the time too.

And it makes sense that a realistic cat would read as "sociopathic".

@thebigmystery7841 lion acts about as much like a regular cat as he possibly can. So I would argue if cats are domesticated then Steven very successfully domesticated lion

As much as I enjoy their enthusiasm, spirit, and loving heart as they react to the show, no wonder the reactor on the left doesn’t remember key moments of the show, he’s so busy talking throughout entire scenes that he misses key dialogue. I think that’s great for people who enjoy these sorts of more chaotic reactions, but it kind of gives me anxiety 😂.
@InkyPetrel2 жыл бұрын
I love your reactions, but I do wonder if you're missing chunks of the show while you're talking about it. This show has some of the best continuity ever, and lots of little breadcrumbs are dropped that pay off MUCH later. :)

yeah, they talk over a lot of it. It gives me so much anxiety lol. Maybe they could pause? Because I like hearing what they have to say still but hate that they miss stuff

Oh, wrestling and cartoons ABSOLUTELY have crossover fans, lol. If you've never watched wrestling it can be hard to imagine, but wrestling is all basically story telling, very dramatically, with over-the-top absurd plots. Think of it like an acrobatic soap opera, or a live-action anime. Everyone is playing a character and they plan out insane plotlines months or even years in advance. It's very fun. While some of the major owners/promoters may be kind of awful people, wrestling is bigger than them, and there are a lot of wrestlers and fans who genuinely love it and are in it for the the theater of it. It is very cartoonish on purpose. I used to roll my eyes at wrestling, now I love watching it!
@battlemaiden42902 жыл бұрын
A lot of the storytelling in wrestling translates really well to cartoons which is why there's so many cartoons that have wrestling episodes or references strewn throughout. There are a bunch of fun references to classic wrestling in this episode - a lot of Steven's antics as Purple Puma's villainous manager (which in wrestling, is a character who either speaks on behalf of a silent or mostly silent wrestler in order to preserve their mystique or cover up the fact that they're not a good speaker, or someone who riles up the crowd by interfering in matches) are references to a famous manager named Paul E. Dangerously. Tiger Millionaire is also a reference to Tiger Mask, which was the name of both a manga from the 60s that featured a masked wrestler of the same name, then in the 80s a Japanese wrestling company tried to drum up some interest in their shows by introducing a real version of Tiger Mask. Eight different people have portrayed Tiger Mask since then, and the most famous was Tiger Mask II, whose real name was Mitsuharu Misawa - his name gets mentioned a lot as one of the greatest wrestlers who ever lived, but wrestling is such a broad form of entertainment that can range from comedic stuff to more soap opera stuff to more serious action/stunt-oriented styles that it's impossible to say that definitively.

Yeah wrestling is not a completely serious sport. It’s very choreographed and sometimes it tells a story. There are definitely “evil guys” a and “good guys”. It’s basically like a stageplay with lots of fights lol. Haven’t watch much of it but it’s entertaining. If you watch the film “Fighting with my Family you get a cool story about wreaking and find out how wrestling works and how people could become wrestlers.

Steven Universe is a unique show in that everything you see is from Steven's perspective as he is experiencing it. Episode 12 is up next... It's my favorite episode of season 1 XD because it was here that i started to realize what the show actually was. The lore of the crystal gems starts to get real depth an unfold at this point and because Steven is learning this too for the first time he can't help but get excited. This show has one of *the* most impressive continuity timelines of any animated series.

5:46 it’s true but it’s more so because sharks are basically completely harmless and have only attacked like 7 people in the last 50 years and most of those of those were in aquariums
@unsoundmethodology Жыл бұрын
Er - worldwide statistics had 74 unprovoked shark bites a year (over the 10-year period 2012-2022), though fewer than 10 deaths per year. There were nine shark-related fatalities in 2022, though only five were considered unprovoked. (To be clear, that's a much lower incidence of shark bites than, say, the 2000 people killed by lightning strikes annually, or the 200 killed by hippos. And "unprovoked attacks" often means that a shark mistook a surfer for a seal, bit them, and then swam away after realizing the mistake. There's no _malice_ involved.) tl;dr: sharks are by no means completely harmless, but their danger has been overblown.

It's way bigger than you think. Wrestling is just cartoons filmed live and directed at men in their 30s. Steven's character is sort of a loose reference the "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase who was a career heel in the 80s and 90s of WWF who was kind of a representation of an "evil rich guy" stereotype. He'd famously do things like offer fans money for completing a challenge, then cheat to avoid paying them for heat. He was most known for his comical cartoonishly evil laughter.

Lion is a cat, of course he's sociopathic. Humans already can't tell a regular cat what to do, telling a magical pink lion the size of a horse what to do is downright impossible. More seriously, I think most fans of the show were incredibly envious of Steven getting to bury his face in a big, placid lion's mane. I know I was.

The best thing about wrestling is that it can be anything. From the world of Comedic Wrestling where guys like Orange Cassidy act aloof and disinterested in the match while still pulling off incredible moves sometimes with his hands in his pockets to the world of Deathmatch Wrestling where guys like Nick Gage attack their opponents with pizza cutters and fluorescent light bulbs. There's even a match available on KZbin that pits The Invisible Man vs. Invisible Stan where referee Bryce Remsburg literally pretends to referee a match and the fans at the event react to things that aren't happening.

I equate entertainment wrestling (wwe) to watching a really over the top stage play. A bunch of people putting on personas to throw down and catch hands, while crafting story lines. Match outcomes are predetermined, and it's up to the wrestlers to make it look as amazing as possible and really sell their characters. That being said, it is a dangerous career that can leave somebody with personality altering brain damage, paralysis caused by botched moves, and even death. The history of the wwe is a whole rabbit hole that's always really interesting to dig through, albeit sometimes tragic.

@@JesterBrosCartoonTheater thanks for listening and taking action so quickly! I admit I didn't really like you calling Lion a sociopath, firstly because it's a stigmatizing term designating people with ASPD, usually used by people as a synonymous of dangerous, evil, etc. And secondly because you said that because Lion didn't show emotions, and uhm, that's not something that makes someone evil... I 'm autistic and most of the time emotions don't show on my face either, but it doesn't mean I feel nothing, and even if it did, it wouldn't mean I'm mean or evil. I'm not trying to be annoying and I'm not mad at you or anything, just explaining some things.
@JesterBrosCartoonTheater2 жыл бұрын
[Alec]: Hey, thanks so much for your comment. This is something that I was totally oblivious to, and would never have approached this topic if I properly understood the stigmatization. Thanks for taking the time to educate me, and I've removed the mention of "sociopath" from the thumbnail. In the future (in and out of the show), I won't throw the term around so loosley.
