It's official. Since the war ended, Steven has become orphan. The Gems half assedly bothered to check his mental state, Greg is God Who Knows was (until Connie calls him). The only support he had was Connie, but after that idiotic move on Steven's part, he is alone with the trauma many characters of this show put him through

Steven learned 3 important lessons here: . His world IS DEFINETELY NOT DISNEY! . It's all fun and games, until reality and dark implications of being a Kid Hero slap you really hard. Indeed, it's second title would be "How to turn everything you know upside down and throw it out of the window". . Being free to do whatever you want without some boundaries and structure is just as bad and childish as having a repressive, controlling homelife. You need balance.

The second episode is even harder for me because I've been stressed and depressed since I was a child. I honestly don't know how I'm still alive... I don't have anybody to talk to. I don't even have one single friend, or even one person in my family who understands me or knows what I'm going through. I've been facing all my trauma alone, for my entire life (or at least the past 18 years). Next year I'll be 30, and I still don't know how to express myself. I'm afraid to go outside because I don't want people to see me and judge me. I haven't been hugged for over 6 years, and that was just a stranger at a convention... The only friends or relationships I've ever had have been online, and they always fall apart before we get to meet up in person... My family don't even know who I am... I've never had someone there to talk to me, to listen, to support me, to hug me, to tell me they love me... Not even once in my life have I had a shoulder to cry on... or even just a friend to hang out with and have fun with... I've never felt wanted, or needed, or like I belonged anywhere... I'm going to be 30 without ever making a friend... and I'm most likely going to kill myself without even experiencing a kiss... Whoops. I guess I said too much. It's hard being alone all the time for your whole life ^^'

My thing is I get why, and I dont dislike suf....But also su og was my escape in my twenties. Ive always had a hard time keeping friends and tend to isolate out of fear of hurting people (mostly its hard for me to hold text convos and people just stop talking to you after a while) So Ive always been very attracted to shows like that have a kind and loving group of friends because Ive never been able to have that myself. I just found out recently its because Im autistic.This season is painful because I can see steven trying to be "Independent" then realizing he needs people etc, etc. and I get its about him growing up and going through the stuff a lot of people (including myself) go through as they grow up. Its just hard seeing steven (and his trauma) being the main conflicts of the show. I miss the optimistic steven who could talk almost anyone into being his friend and being better. lol I guess what Im saying is I miss the escape of watching su and thinking maybe the world can be good, and most people can be redeemed. Also the amount he pushes the gems away just really really gets me 😭

Greg was kind of in a shitty situation. His parents were likely complete trash by earth standards and the relationship couldn't be repaired in any meaningful way. Steven doesn't want blood family, he just thinks he does since he's extremely emotional and trying to find solutions to problems that don't exist. Greg was a good dad but he made mistakes like everyone else, and steven wants to crucify him for not always knowing the exact right thing to do to keep himself and his son happy for the rest of their lives. Greg was also right about not sending steven to school. They had no idea what would happen with steven since he was unique. What if his powers just came out one day and he blew up a classroom? He also can't have many close friendships due to how dangerous his life is just by virtue of being him. How in the fuck do you explain in science class that you can instantly teleport across the entire planet whenever you feel like it? How do you explain that beings made of hard light just exist and explain how they work?
@garrethb62616 ай бұрын
I'm sorry but no him not sending Steven to school was never a good call. Steven need to have an education to learn to socialize and to gain employable skills. Greg didn't send school because Steven might have been a danger to others, he didn't send him to school because he thought it would restrict his freedom. Greg had an awful childhood no doubt, but he overcorrected and now Steven can't relate to his peers and can't get a job.
@SeraphSeph6 ай бұрын
@garrethb6261 why would Steven NEED a job? By earth standards he had ways to power his home for an infinite amount of time. Also school isn't as helpful as you would think since schools tend to stiffle creativity and intelligence, where do you place a kid with a better understanding of theoretical physics than any physicist on earth since he applies the physics every day? Also we saw that pearl and co were teaching him math and stuff. Maybe he could have joined a club or something but he did make several friends in town so it wasn't as big an issue as you're making it out to be.
@garrethb62616 ай бұрын
You're not looking from Steven's perspective. This isn't about needing a job, it's about needing a purpose He's directionless now, in his mind going to school would have helped him figure out what he wanted to do with his life, other than be everyone's emotional crutch. And in order to get a job he needs to have some level of basic education. And when in the show do we see the Crystal Gems teach Steven? I never saw that happen. And you claim he had friends in town? The one friend he had who could truly be his peer was Connie. The only 2 other kids his age were peedee and onion, and he didn't even interact with them all that often. His only friend who was a peer to him was just Connie. The teens in the town may have been friends, but they didn't help with his develop. Children need peers around their age to interact with to help with their emotional development. Studies from health specialists have shown that due to the social isolation of lockdown the Development of children was severely harmed, and apart of this harm as from children not going to school to learn and interact with their peers. Despite your criticism of schools it doesn't change the fact that they help with development in children. I agree that the education system needs to be changed, but to completely discredit it is frankly insane. Greg was not the parent Steven needed, I have no doubts that he loved Steven, but he was neglectful. He neglected his physical needs by allowing him to eat all the junk food he wanted, and by allowing him to go to bed at whatever time he wanted, and by never taking to see a doctor. He loves Steven and was their for his emotional needs, but not his other needs. Applying Greg's ultra hands-off parenting technique just isn't a good parenting strategy.
@SeraphSeph6 ай бұрын
@garrethb6261 I'm actually likely thinking about it from Steven's perspective more than you are. He's going to live bare minimum 10s of thousands of years. Earth school is irrelevant on that kind of timescale, and he couldn't "figure out" what he wanted to do by going to school just like the vast majority of us don't. Also, personally I found that school stunted my development. I probably should have been 3 or 4 grades ahead but the teachers kept recommending that I stayed instead of skipping grades so I could be around peers, except when every other kid us that stupid it's difficult to make friends at best. The teachers were also regurgitating what was on their lesson plan, not true information (explaining to a teacher that there are 4 states of matter then being told that im thinking too much made me want to smack her). Steven would have Gome through similar things except it would be exacerbated by the fact that he is literally learning things no earth person will ever understand from pearl.
@garrethb62616 ай бұрын
@@SeraphSeph 1. you assume he'll live thousands of years, but that might not even be true. He's still half human, he might have a human's life span. And even if he did live thousands of years I don't see how that makes my point irrelevant. 2. Just because you feel like school halted your development it doesn't mean your experience is the norm. You can't just expect everyone to have the same kind of development you did.
