People have pointed out that clod means a lump of dirt or clay and it also means a stupid person, but from Peridot's perspective it's an even worse insult, because her expertise is growing gems. When it comes to the quality of crystals, how large and perfect their crystal lattice is is the most important aspect and the absolute lowest quality crystal would be a compacted lump of the base materials with no long-range structure. In other words, not an actual crystal, but just a clod. My research is in growing crystals, and it's the most disappointing thing when you do a synthesis and find a big solid piece and think it's a nice crystal, but then when you look at it under the microscope, it's just a compacted amorphous lump.

Besides noticing how physically weak Peridot is, you see how terrified she is of authority, thinking that she was about to be "harvested" or how everything in the bathroom was some kind of weapon. Go back to season one. In Marble Madness, Peridot had no idea what the "Crystal Gems" were, believed from records that Gems were no longer on Earth, and that the absence of a Red Eye report (evidently the Red Eye was destroyed before it could transmit) confirmed this opinion. In The Return, Peridot was extremely frustrated that Jasper, who was supposed to be an escort to protect her and her equipment, commandeered the expedition to get "Rose Quartz" back to Homeworld. She is angry at the Crystal Gems for wrecking her task (observing the emergence of the Cluster), but has yet to develop an opinion about the Earth itself or its biological life. Peridot has issues on both sides of the Galaxy Warp. This final arc of season two is equal IMO to the conclusion of season one, and with even more Gem lore. I think Peridot is that weak because she never had to use physical strength before, and also because she isn't created to ever use that, she is practically some sort of computer that does everything with/depends on her limb enhancers, she wasn't made to fight, but just to report and check on things

In all honesty, there was really no reason for them to attack Peridot because of the times she did fight them, it was in self defense. Even in 2x15 because they backed her into a corner and wouldn't leave her alone. She was just rying to go back to Homeworld

Since you've already gotten pretty far in the series by the time i'm commenting, I just wanna say. Peridot is probably the only one who understands what Steven is the first time it's vaguely explained. Just immediately realizing he's a hybrid, and even commenting on the fact that she didn't know it was possible, showing that she understands, conceptually what happened. Everyone else takes a few attempts to understand, or even refuses to believe it.

@@chasethemaster3440 Peridot was frustrated/angry that Jasper was pulling rank and changing the mission. She was like a junior officer whose career is riding on successfully completing the high-level assigned task and that task is then made impossible by the middle superior officer suddenly going off on some tangent and changing orders. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Jasper acts more like an Agate than the other Jaspers, who seem to be Amethyst-level chill. Gems are programmed to be servile to authority, and in return most superior Gems take every opportunity to heap scorn on their "inferiors", Rose Quartz being a notable exception.
