Actually that's incorrect, gender is what one identifies as mentally, while sex is what one is physically. Physically gems can be whatever sex they want, but mentally their gender is female(sans Steven). Why this is I do not know, and I can not WAIT to find out.

yoshimickster There may be gems that consider themselves guys mentally, we just don't have a lot of information, as far as we know, the Centepeedle considers itself a guy. Also, gender and Sex should be one and the same, if it isn't, then the person needs to see a psychologist, unless your a gem, then you can't physically have a gender. .

As you can see, when Steven first summons the "monster", "the thing" is in a human form, as if a human is kneeling down. Thus, these "monsters" are actually (sort of) mutated gems

each season had a theme to it this one seems to be focusing more on the Crystal Gems themselves. They have Peridot as an official member, Lapis is Unofficial. They protected Peridot and it seems that they aren't done recruiting new members yet when I look at the Episode names. Even the song Pearl sings in the promo for the season suggests that their is still more to learn about them.

I think the Centipeetle will either be Tourmaline, or some type of Quartz gem. Because we do know that Quartz gems usually are the gems with the longest hair. And, when the centipeetle was regenerating, it had long hair much like a quartz gem. But, it could also be Tourmaline, because it's gem can usually have dark green and black colors in it. But as for now... who knows. :P Another theory is that it could be Jade, but.. I doubt that.

I think she is some form of Quartz gem if the hair was anything to go on as well as size, Quartz are the second biggest singular gems aside from the Diamonds. Rose was like 8 feet tall Jasper was huge too. The Gem is so oddly shaped I can't even make a guess.
