As a white woman, I "accidentally" set an appointment at a "black" hair salon. I was surrounded by strictly photos of black women with spectacular hair-styles, and Ebony magazines. I felt so out of place, so strange, but no one seemed to notice I was "different," and the stylist said she had experience with "my type" of hair. After the hair cut, she recommended products for "white" peoples texture type hair. I by then felt so comfortable: she recognized "reality" and expressed it honestly and respectfully. This is all the world need to be. Not hiding the truth, but recognizing real differences without any need for negative judgement. Knowing I have different hair texture than most of her clients is a type of "judgement," but it's truth, not disparaging. Created equally yes, but not all "the same."

That actually hits the nail right on the head. So-called white privilege is exactly equivalent to being white in a white majority country. By this standard, anyone who is a member of the majority race in any country has privilege. This questionnaire implies that racial minorities will only be treated fairly when they become racial majorities. However, if and when this happens, the racial minority that has become a majority will have the same privilege that they claim white people once had. However, not all races can be the majority - only one can. Therefore, according to this logic, racial privilege is inescapable. All that can change is that a different group can have the privileged position. So clearly, people who complain about white privilege do not seek to end racial tension or discrimination based on race, but only to disadvantage white people through guilt. There is a very simple way out of this, it is called treating people as individuals, which is what Martin Luther King wanted, and is a central idea of western liberal democracies.

I recently completed a business postgrad cert here in Ireland. There was a Nigerian girl in my class who talked about the problem she and other African women had finding shampoos and cosmetics to suit their skin tone/hair type. You know what she did? She set up a business importing these cosmetics and shampoos. She didn't cry "white privilege". Now she is making money and found a practical solution for the issues her people faced in this regard. Thats why capitalism is the best solution for issues like this.

I'm a white male, and my current manager is a black male. My last manager was a white female, and the one before that was an Indian male. My hiring manager who interviewed me was a black female. The vast majority of my coworkers are Indian. In high school, about a third of my teachers were black, most of the school administration was black, and most of my football coaches and teammates were black. I took one class (African American History) where I was the only white kid in the class. I've spent long hours with black classmates in a mixed race environment and never witnessed one act of racism against any of them. Most of my friends in college I hung out with were Japanese, Chinese, Pakistani, or Latino/Hispanic, and I've never witnessed one act of racism against any of them. I've been to stores with and around plenty of black and other non-white people, and I've never once seen any of them getting followed around. Unlike a lot of these SJWs and college professors, I've actually lived out in the world, and I figured that if this racism they speak of were so pervasive, I would have witnessed at least a few incidents of it. But I'm just a white male, so my opinion doesn't matter anyway.

Most white folks don't have the same exposure to people of color that you have. Just because you have been Around a few black folks doesn't mean you know their entire life experience. ToyosiFawehinmi Well I don't know if it's representative of most white people's experiences or not, but it's also not like I was the only white person in those environments (with a few exceptions as I mentioned before). As Crowder says, it really depends on where you grow up, go to school, work, etc. And I also can't claim to know the entirety of the black experience and am certainly not claiming racism never occurs. But I think it's a lot less pervasive than the social justice crowd makes it out to be. Like as I said, if it was such a racist society we live in, I figured I'd have at least a few good examples to cite. Maybe it's all so cryptic I just don't notice it, but in that case it's kind of hard to take a stand against it.

Heh, that really depends on where... I live in China, and while the homework in school is a thing, respecting elders is iffy. There's a load of "Filial piety" talk, but I keep seeing kids throwing tantrums, yelling at their parents and grandparents. I do see students shamed for not being perfect academically. There's not even just ridicule. Teachers are expected to cubstomp any high school love, since students need to spend every moment of their lives working towards passing the gaokao. Also, the Chiense I talked to tend to refer to themselves as yellow (as in Chinese), though, there are white and brown Chinese... they're just not really considered Chinese, since they're minorities. People treat "Asian" like a race, when there are people of different races in Asia (I've met several in person), but only the majority is recognized.

I grew up poor. I ate from white "USDA"-marked cans. My father died when I was 12. My mother had to work her ass off to support two kids without Dad around and no help from his psycho parents, and her mother was again too poor to help. I have been passed up for jobs because of my skin color. I'm followed around in stores because of the way I look (admittedly, I could probably fix that if I spent money on new clothes, but they'd just get ripped and stained soon anyway). I had to risk coming home minus pieces, or worse coming home in a flag-draped box, just to afford my local community college, and I'm just praying I can get a job that doesn't involve breaking my back for peanuts once I get this stupid 2-year... My dad was a pilot shortly before he was killed, and he left behind a huge stack of student loans that didn't help our situation. The best memories I have from my childhood were up there in that clapped-out old Cessna with him... And I've tried for the past FIFTEEN YEARS, to get into flight school, even to just get my goddamned private pilot's... And every single time, something has stood in my way... Something, anything, whatever, something. I've tried and tried and tried, and despite my being whiter than rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm, John D. Odegaard at UND still doesn't accept "being white" as payment... Even with my dad being an alumnus... But tell me again that I'm "privileged" because I'm white...

Jaclyn, that actually depends entirely on your loan provider, and whether or not you live in a community property state. If the loan is federally backed, you are correct and you are not liable. However, if it is from a private loan provider it will depend on the lenders policies. It is a good idea to inquire with your lender on such policies before you co-sign your children's (or anyone else's) loans. If they don't dismiss the debt they will almost always attempt to collect from the estate of the decedent itself. Then they will usually pursue any co-signer of the loan. J. Markov im a designet too..but i dont understand the hate for the comic sans font. Whats the big deal? Fonts nowadays are a unique art form all their own...and art is subjective.
