sam wrote the song after one of his friends committed suicide and originally didn’t plan on releasing it actually. he felt like he was capitalising of his death, but it raised a conversation regarding mental health and especially male suicide and how it’s still ignored by society. it’s one of his most important and powerful songs... i get goosebumps every time i listen to it!!

Also it saved someone’s life when it came on the radio as he was driving to a bridge, Sam told this story on a radio interview I think

Sam is my absolute favourite artist and Dead Boys is definitely one of his most important (and one of my favourite) songs. Sam has also shared a story in several interviews that this song literally saved someone's life. When Dead Boys first came out, there was a guy in his car, about to drive his car off the road to end his life and then (luckily!) he heard Dead Boys and an interview with Sam about mental health and male suicide on the radio, he then turned around, went to his wife and told her that he needed help. If that doesn't show the power of this song, I don't know what does :) Also thank you for making yourself so vulnerable in this video!

This song is so powerful, I remember seeing him in concert in Amsterdam and a couple of british guys were in front of me having the time of their lives. But when this song came on, they were so vulnerable, emotional, just screaming their hearts out and crying. THAT gave me goosebumps, just the fact that they felt safe in that room, feeling heard and understood. Maaaaan I get emotional thinking about it🥺

Sam is from my home town in the North East of England. We have had a lot of suicides especially now with covid 19. He is amazing singer I have heard him live and he sounds exactly the same, love from UK

As a female, I recently became aware of how much I feel bad for young boys and men at the moment. Women over hundreds of years have fought to be heard and respected and now we have what we wanted, but have forgotten about the innocent boys and men who haven't done anything to anyone. Being labeled Toxic is such a disgusting term in itself, more so for the innocent ones who don't fall under that term. This song by Sam is needed and I'm glad you reacted to it. Anyone who is struggling please talk to someone and open up.

its so good to hear this message from someone who is a woman, I sometimes feel like women dont understand that side of us. I originally agreed with some of andrew tates ideas in particular but now I think he's dug us into a deeper hole in the eyes of women.

This has obviously been around for a while so a bit late to comment. I have known Sam's music for a long time, before he became famous (I am from his home area). He is brilliant as many people comment, but actually I want to comment on your reaction. I think your reaction is so honest and right on point when you talk about your struggles. Good on you

I think I remember Sam Fender talking about how he'd released it in part because statistics had come out showing that men in the north east (where he is from) had some of the highest rates of suicide and so he was smashing open that conversation. I have huge respect for Sam. He released a cover of an old local band to him's song called Winter Song for Christmas and used it to raise awareness and money for homelessness this year. It's a hauntingly beautiful song. I absolutely agree with you about speaking being the most important thing. I'm so glad you were able to. I've found the more frank you are about these things the less scary they become. Thank you for being so open yourself I'm sure it helps a lot of people.

Ur reaction was perfect but hes specifically talking about the notheast of england were suicide rates are crazy, “everybody around here just drinks… cause thats out culture”. Its hard because northeast most friendly best place too live but theres so much drugs and poverty even though great people money and drugs and other stuff gets on top of ppl and this song was fuckint amazing for awareness! Ps i would love u too visit the northeast england (newcastle, boro, sunderland, sheilds, washington) such poor areas in context but i guarantee the NICEST people you will meet! And we are a mining heratage u graft and suffer and keep it too urself and still the case todsy, sam did an amazing job for mental health and he will have saved literally THOUSANDS of lives talking about it and this song!

Sam actually wrote this song in honour of his friend who committed suicide, in the aftermath he was taking to his mates and people around his home town and he realised that every single one of them had been effected by suicide/mental health in some way and realised it was something that needed to be talked about, hence Dead Boys

Thank you for speaking up. When you‘re broken you should get the chance to heal. Wish you the best for your life. Gals and Guys your family and friends will be there for you and if you‘re alone there are amazing people out there that wish to listen to you and help you to get up. And i can tell from experience it’s harder to fight your inner demons than being a tough infantryman. If you read this and you‘re broken, no matter the circumstances, You’re strong enough, I believe in You!!!

In the UK we have a very serious problem of males under the age of 45 committing suicide the figures are truly horrific especially from the 16 to 25 age group. Suicide is the biggest killer of males around the world but no one speaks about it. Listen to DYING LIGHT but Sam is the voice of this generation. Every song he sings is about his life and where comes from. North East England is a rough place to grow up. It's not only America that has Ghetto's
