Wow, how timely to have seen this video. a drip, drip on almost identical faucet. I removed the aerator and a bunch of water came out. Cleaned the aerator out and no more drip. We had already discussed getting repair parts or replacing the faucet. Now all is good! Keep up the great videos that are so helpful.

I’ve called Delta many times for replacement parts. I always feel guilty, my faucets are 14+ years old, so I offer to pay for the parts and they never want any money. The trick is to know the model number for the faucet. It usually comes with the install instructions but if you buy a resale house or even a new one, most contract plumbers never leave that information behind, I think they’re supposed to attach a tag to the supply line giving that info. If you don’t have the model number, they will help you identify the model. Very nice people. At least when you get them from Delta you know you’re getting genuine parts.

I've always put a small amount of valve stem grease on the top of the seat, O-ring and the bottom of the cartridge. It reduces the friction of the opening and closing of the valves and extends the life of the seats and cartridges.
@craigharding4753 жыл бұрын
I do that too, FG. I HAVE to do it, due to a well and hard water! Otherwise i would have to replace them every 3 months. I use it in my shower cartridge, as well as the seal in my toilet fill valve that uses the old float device.

I'm always having to clean the lime buildup off my valves. The water is hard around here, so the grease definitely helps.

Just so people know, the Delta repair kits come with 2 sets of different sized springs, Make sure to match them up with what you have. Also, always a good idea to block the drain(s) to keep small parts from escaping. I've done a lot of handyman work for friends and family over many years, lots of fixture repairs. When someone is looking at replacing a faucet, I tell them to pick out a DELTA faucet they like. If they have a different brand in mind, I say DELTA!!!
@rangermarshall4534 Жыл бұрын
Great video; I haven't read all the comments, but it is imperative on the spring and seal kit that you orient the washer seal properly. The flange must go down not up or you won't be able to turn the water off with the handles. The water will just stay on after you turn on the valve if the seal is not oriented properly.. I also coat the seal and O rings on the cartridge with a little vaseline.
@JLThisisMe3 ай бұрын
My Delta cartridges looked nothing like the ones in the video and I had the very same problem you mentioned --- the handles wouldn't turn off the water. Not sure exactly why, because I didn't use a new spring and seal kit. There were two loose pieces of plastic below the cartridge (again, nothing like what was shown in this video) that I tried to position as they were before. I'm thinking that might have been the problem.
@seniorcomputer32923 жыл бұрын

She's a leaker mama. Need a guy like you in my area. I fix what I can, learned a lot watching your vids. But if it requires special tools I'm calling in the pro's. Don't know anyone in my area who will even attempt to fix anything. It it's leaking they 're going to want to replace it. Even if a cheapo little washer will fix it. Don't know any independent guys they all work for the big outfits. It's like it can't be fixed we will have to replace it. Damn shame their aren't a lot of good old honest guys around anymore. If you were in my area you would be my go to guy.
@craigharding4753 жыл бұрын
Pete, I can relate. I think that Obama Care contributed to that situation. The techs tell me that they had to go to the big outfits because the pay for the health insurance that they can`t afford. Then the big outfits cover the huge costs by working the tech`s asses off, and socking it to the customer. Similarly, our independent farmers are being squeezed-out of business by the Con-Agra`s because they can`t afford the high-tech equipment in order to compete. The farms get sold and big real-estate throws-up condo`s. That trend leads to water table problems, congestion, crime and all the rest of it.
@craigharding4753 жыл бұрын
@@yz250a (Ouch) But you are correct, of course. Sorry, I am new to this. I just noticed the trend in my area and asked the techs that I have hired, what was going on with them. They told me they would rather be independent plumbers and HVAC`s and have more control over their hours. (Like Steve has). We need more Steve Lav`s. Like myself, many others have commented that they wish he, or someone like him, was in their area. Independents are a dying breed. He seems to feature just as many furnaces as "PLUMBING". But, I hope that I have stayed on-topic this time.

Morning Steve. Tech tip , use a 4 in 1 Screwdriver without the bit , use the barrel to fully seat the washer and spring.
@kenc.90673 жыл бұрын
Cool tip, I will try that. As Steve said, it helps a lot if there's no water in the faucet body, else the rubber seal tends to float. I usually use paper towel to soak the water up first

We always use a #2 pencil with an eraser head to seat the springs, just remember that the SMALL end of the spring seats FACE UP into the rubber seat towards you.

I remember doing that on a faucet, and after I put it together some debris from the old rubber seals must have traveled up to the aerator and clogged it.

The ones that gave me grief were the generic two valves units, the spout would leak at the base, warranting replacement of the whole spot. You couldn't do anything else with that!
