A plumber 15 years from now will be thanking ole Steve Lav for greasing them seats. Great video Steve!

Wow, that's exactly the same setup as my leaking Temptrol handle. Even the bathtub is the same color! Tightening the packing nut stopped the leak, but within a few weeks, it started leaking again, and the packing nut was loose again.

Thank God that was mounted good in the wall. As tight as it was I thought it was going to break.

Well there I was about to start taking my shower head apart to figure out why it was leaking. Good thing I found this video first. Looks like a job for a professional(one equipped with the right tools).

Between your video and a comment about Symmons warranty I was able to rebuild the valve for $0. Thank you!

You really covered all so well. Every step of removing and reinstalling. Nicest video overview on plumbing I have seen. I don't have this buy sister does and waiting for friend to replace valve. I know I could also do this, right down my diy easy install. Also nice Shower Faucet. Not sure how that diverter works but if I ever need new, will look for similar model. Thanks

That use of the easy out screw extractor was genius. I saw that and ran to my toolbox and found one. Worked like a charm
@dmneil19774 ай бұрын
I just watched a video by the inventor of the zip seat extractor. There is the square extractor for the older style seats and the hexagon for the new seats. You use an impact drill with a bit that attaches to the extractor. The inventor claims these extractors never strip the seats and will even remove previously stripped seats.

That valve has happened to me too. I had to force it out. But it came out with some help. Those type of vavles do take a bit for the shower pipe to drain. Thank you for an easy way to get it out next time.

Thanks for video, just my faucet is leakeing can i just replace the spindle

Those Symmons are a PITA. Wasn't able to pull the outer seat with the official tool --stripped it. Then drilled out with 1" drill bit. Followed with a wide cold chisel. Wish I had the easyout you had. To make matters worse, the hot is still leaking.
@limppimento553 жыл бұрын
Excellent! A few thoughts came to mind: Did the last seat that was hard to remove have the grease on it? Was absence of grease why it was so hard to remove? Did you bypass another notch or hex and use the 3/4” easy out or is that the only way? I’m surprised there is no dandy tool to scrape a new surface on the seat. And finally, what of the copper pipe behind the tub wall breaks or cracks from that enormous torque applied to it? That never happens? And if it did, do you run the risk of a homeowner blaming you for damage? “Hey lady, I broke the pipe behind the wall amd the tub and drywall have to come out”.

Everywhere I've rented seems to have Symmons shower valves. I think they work pretty well until they start to bind up. Probably depends how much gravel and shit is in water.

I wanna give you a big thank first and then I share my experience here for people. I live in a condo (1st floor). There was a big bathroom repair upper floor and apparently they cut down copper pipes all day long. They had to shut off water for entire lines (my unit and other units above me) because we share the main valve to shut the water off. After the construction was over, I used bath tub and I saw a lot of copper debris coming out of the faucet. And then the dripping started. I found out that copper debris were stacked inside the Symmons valve so the cartridge couldn't be fully closed. I changed the cartridge and also changed hot and cold seats anyway, as it was a good chance to change those probably after more than a decade. Note that recent Symmons shower diverter is (RTS 126 or something) different from the previous one (TA52 or something. There is TA52A and TA52B.). Unless hot/cold seats are really stuck like in this video, this is really easy job.

Why would you not replace the diverter valve at the same time when everything was open?

could that valve be why when I turn my hot water on for the bath/shower I lose water pressure?

hi steve i seen a newer Lennox Ac condenser out here the fan motor went out on it and it has a manual reset switch on one of the lines as as that what the technician said is to protect the compressor. as when the motor quit it tripped that switch. as its wired into the 24 volt side of it which prevents the contactor from pulling in if it trips. as it must be the newer systems charged with 410A that have it im not sure if Ruud or Goodman has these manual reset switches. So anotherwords its a safety switch its a good thing Lennox puts them on their units.
