Good job there, it's amazing the mess folk make of wastes, seems like they don't actually even think about water flow and just cobble things together and hope it comes right!

now I have not saw one of those breakers installed in the wall very often! Installed horizontal guarantees a complete fail when they go bad instead of a "fail safe" situation if it had been originally installed vertical.... Got her draining ,,, good repair .. The lady surely wouldn't want to pay for a new vent line THR ... real world repair,, good video.. thanks for posting..

Dumping that stuff out of the trap reminded me of a heater vent in a rental unit I was fixing up. The vent cover was bulging out so I removed it and found it totally stuffed with wrappers from candy, Little Debby's, Zingers, Ho Ho, Snickers, Butterfingers; all kinds of sweets. I think a kid was sneaking goodies into his bedroom and stuffing the "evidence" down the heater vent. It made me laugh!

Bin watching your videos and really helpful. I've Bin a helper for about 7 months now and determined to be a plumber. By any chance can you do a video on a reroute? Ive seen how to cut holes and run the pex in the walls but don't know how to connect to the cold and hot water, If not that's cool I appreciate the educational videos.

Another satisfied customer , would you not put in a air admittance valve to aid the water flow to the drain ? Maybe just a UK thing , poor baby cold paws
@whommee8 жыл бұрын
+poppypiesdad1 not speaking for Steve, but with DW pump and the high loop in the DW drain keeping pressure on the backflow stop in the DW drain pump,, along with the open sink drain, air admittance device is really not necessary. in most cases. I have not ran into it as a code issue for some time in most areas here in the States.notice I said most areas before I get a lot of no no no comments..lol I am sure others here in this comment section can explain further. Since no vent in the original plumbing the sink is going to gurgle and suck the trap for sink drain, hence the reason for a air device... but these are repairs and economics rules, you just have to work with what you got lots of times.It aint a perfect world, and I promise you , new construction is not always plumbed to code, so we get what we get sometimes.. I think you made a great comment and posed a good question.

Many years ago, whenever we serviced a kitchen sink with a dishwasher and no vent, my father would insist that we install a V-200 vent flapper in the line under the sink. But that was back in the late sixties and plumbing as well as codes must have changed. Could you have installed an under sink vent such as the V-200 on this job to stop the gurgling? Or perhaps they may have been outlawed over the years.

+Greens Beans 53 not speaking for Steve,, but now if code would allow a "studor" vent is the device used in some areas,, they have pros and cons.. however economics rule repairs and usually not required in a repair situation as shown here. They work, but they do have drawbacks,, I am sure the owner would not to pay for a VTR at the sink and simply wanted a quick economical repair. Again, those are not allowed by code in some areas,, but are allowed in others,, some areas code dictates a dwv piping in the style of a "chicago loop" at areas where a VTR is not directly available,but those have to be tied to a vent somewhere in near vacinity, but different codes for different areas.. These things if utilized are installed in new construction and in the plumbing repair biz, you got to work with real world situations and economics of the owner, most cases..good question and comment.. I did not know the v200 air admittance device was available back years ago,, ( lol but I am getting old and time is getting irrelevant to me).. they are similar to the newer styled "studor" vent in functionality, just less sophisticated.. if they are allowed by code,, they are a good bit less expensive than the "studor" vent. BTW those V 200 have to be installed so that they are at least 6 inches ( I think ) above the top of trap.. Similar requirements for studor vents.. Again, some others here can add to or help out with your comment.. good question I think. lol,, the air admittance device as was installed originally would always fail and not fail safe in the horizontal position it was originally installed in..Gravity makes those things work,, and need free movement of interior components to operate with any satisfaction.

+nate Thanks Nate for your information and the education. By any means, I was not a master plumber or master HVAC tech. And it seemed the men reminded me of that fact on a daily basis. I only worked in the family business during high school and sometimes when I returned home while on break from college. The scope of the business was commercial in nature with only a couple of vans dedicated for domestic plumbing contracting. We did however work on several new construction townhouse projects. Code regulations in our neck of the woods also varied by municipal jurisdiction. I've packed what seems like miles of cast iron waste with oakum and led rather than how they are regularly using schedule 40 PVC now days. I was exposed to the V200 vent mainly because it was the only device we carried in the vans. We used the "loop vent" method mostly under wet islands like in a restaurant "wedding island" wet bar or in high-end kitchen islands. I had no real interest in making plumbing or HVAC a career choice, so please pardon my apparent ignorance on certain aspects of the business. I was mostly assigned to the dirty work like punching tubes and servicing big filthy steam boilers that burned #6 oil or being called out at night in below zero temperatures for "no heat" calls. However, the money was good and it financed my expenses during college. Thanks again.
