It is a well orchestrated ploy to limit interest on the continent, which minimizes wealth gain. So when we stay poor, we keep relying on loans from western countries , using our rich resources as collateral. In default, they take over. Just like predatory lending

This is the type of architecture I wish was all over West Africa. It should be our signature style. It is beautiful! When you look at government buildings in Japan, China, Korea,etc you have no doubt it is an Asian traditional style. In Africa, our government buildings could easily be placed in Europe and no one would notice. Let's keep some traditional styles as we develop!(especially the roofs)
@tvs99783 жыл бұрын
This roof style is not indigenous to West Africa but to Southern Africa so to say it should be all over West Africa is to say the same thing, importing a foreign culture because it suits an image you like. Africa is not monolithic
@o.t.95673 жыл бұрын
@@tvs9978 And is this your opinion or an actual fact that this roofing style is from southern Africa?? And if it's a fact, can you please be gracious enough to direct us to the literature, video etc where this fact is stated? Because I've sure seen old photos of historical Akan, Beninois architecture etc and they looked similar (and in some cases exactly) like this so please provide reference to your claim so that we can unlearn and relearn. Thanks.
@tvs99783 жыл бұрын
@@o.t.9567 It's an actual fact The architects were Zimbabwean. If you look up lodges in Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa like Livingstone Lodge, Ilalla Lodge etc, you will see this hotel mimics that aesthetic. Not to say there aren't thatch houses in Ghana, but there are differernt aesthetics between the West and South in terms of the construction
@o.t.95673 жыл бұрын
@@tvs9978 Did you block me?? I'm trying to reply but it keeps deleting. Anyways, It's true that it was built by Zimbabweans, however, according to the owner of the resort, they use mainly inspiration from Ghanaian cultures with a few from other parts of Africa so yes the shape, form of the structure itself may be something from the south but we're talking about the roof here and it's the simple truth that it's thatch.....which was very much used in historical West Africa. So the fact that west africans haven't used it much for their resorts but the southerners have, doesn't necessarily mean it originates from there but like I said, we are ready to relearn if you can provide the reference that explicitly say otherwise. If you go to google right now and type historical Akan/Beninios etc architecture, you'll find this exact thatch roofing style there.
