As a fan of metal going back to being in middle school, I joined my first band in high school and then as an adult from the age of 21 until I was 31. I was in three different bands. I can’t headbanging anymore. I have to be very careful with how I move my neck because headbanging really screwed my neck up. I can’t tilt my head back as far as I used to or I could really hurt myself. I remember two years ago a friend told me a really funny joke and I Threw my head back laughing and quickly stopped and I collapsed on the floor and I was paralyzed for about three seconds. Then I got the feeling in my arms and legs again, but I had limited movement of my neck, arms and legs, and I had to lay down With my left knee up but my left foot on the ground and my right leg laying in a very specific position and that was the only way not to be in excruciating pain. Any movement of any of my arms or legs or neck would have me in the worst pain ever, and my body would lock up again. To make matters worse, I had eaten one of the most potent psychedelic mushrooms you can buy in North America so I was in a really intense trip at the time and let me tell you it took everything of my experience it of life to not go into a panic attack that I thought was going to kill me when I felt myself go paralyzed while I was tripping.

If you keep your shoulders straight and look straight down like Dave did yeah you will eventually injure your neck. You have to stay spread out and move your upper body along with your head so all the force isn't just coming from you bobbing your head up and down. Having a guitar attached to you can help make it easier.

@@jacoboflores9257 I've been saying the same thing. I've pointed out that when you compare Dave to other guys his age, such as Hetfield, Blitz, Chuck Billy, or even Mark Osugueda (who I do realize is a few years younger than Dave.) Dave's voice didn't age well.

Well, Mustaine's voice was certainly never his forte, he pushed it a lot. He was basically forced to sing because he originally had no singer in Megadeth, and it stayed that way. Surely gave his band a unique tone, his voice is quite particular and absolutely not for everyone, but it's no surprise it declined as it did.

In the early 1990s I dislocated my neck for the first time to Holy Wars, after seeing a picture of Mustaine headbanging in Metal Maniacs magazine! (I dislocated my neck three more times in the subsequent years :P)
