I have a 2007 f150 FX4. Replaced the starter in the parking lot of a Raising Canes when my son took it on a date. Get yourself a 6" extension for your ratchet wrench and go over the top of the starter. It's tough but can be done.

Many many years ago I can recall my Dad, older brother and myself taking turns laying on the gravel driveway using the only spanner of suitable size (an open enderer) to remove the starter from an English Standard Vanguard. You had to remove the left front wheel to get access to the hole in the inner guard loop your hand around the steering box feel for the bolt head and give it a few degrees of turn then flip the spanner over to get it back on the bolt and give it another fraction of a turn and so on. 3 Hours later we had managed to get 1 of the 2 bolts out. I feel your pain. Cheers from Oztralia Eric

Nice work.. Working on these rusty vehicles can be a real pain. If you do manifold replace, and are keeping truck for long term.. go with stainless shorty header. Next vehicle you need to fluid film.. I deal with the crummy road salt rust here, and the only way to to go is fluid film, or similar. Thanks for sharing your journey

Thank. I definitely want to get fluid film for my next car.

I have never had a problem replacing 11th gen starters. Interesting techniques here.

These were my shade tree mechanic techniques. Laying on the ground vs standing under a car on a lift is like night in day. Thanks for watching.

@@stevewatr Next time you have to replace one, try a 3 ft extension with a warbler.

Honestly if you can't get that boat out you don't even need to be doing this kind of work

If I can't get the boat out, I won't be going fishing.

Hmmm, This just adds to my opinion that Fords are poorly designed with respect to serviceability. My brother has a '97 Ford Explorer that has over 200K miles so his reliability has been good, but every time I suggest we do some service work on it, it seems to be way harder than it should be. I've been maintaining quite a few Dodge/Chryslers and even a BMW 330xi and they never seem to be that hard to service. On the BMW, even though the engine bay is quite packed, there is a logical way of getting things out of the way for service.

I am confused.. I have never seen a stator on a car/truck.. stators are on boats .. riding mowers etc .. If a vehicle has a alternator it DOESNT Have a stator. a stator replaces a alternator and provides power to the recharge the battery..your truck has a alternator .. So where is this stator you speak of ??
@stevewatr2 ай бұрын
The title read "stater" do to a spelling error where the r was missing. I have now fixed it so you should no longer be confused.
