This is the prime example of how when 2 Legends get together in song, but they don’t have to out vocal each other! Perfection!

So much significance and history with this collab - it was Stevie's launch into rock n roll as a solo performer.

These two together are greater than the sum of their parts! This is classic rock at its best, imho. Just an irresistible song. Many thanks for your fabulous request, Neal, and for your pitch perfect reaction Harri.

The pride of Gainesville, Florida. Tom Petty! Nothing anyone can say about Stevie can approach her brilliance. Fun fact: Stevie Nicks got the title of her hit, "The Edge of Seventeen," from the deep Southern accent of Tom's first wife Jane. Stevie asked her when she first met Tom and she misheard her say the age of seventeen. Great pick, Neal. Love the reaction, Harri.

One of rock's greatest duets, Stevie and Tom almost didn't make this tune. Stevie wasn't sure she could sing this song, but she slays the tune with her unique and beautiful vocals, the perfect match to Tom's. From Stevie's debut solo album," Bella Donna" from 1981, the great instrumentation of The Heartbreakers delivering masterful keyboards and a dynamic bass, in this classic tune. Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100's for 6 weeks, a great treat. Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤ Thanks Neal, great choice. Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦

oh gosh yes the heartbreakers lives up to that name like you said they do have that effect of a lion waiting to jump forth, and Stevie Nicks on her own does do that to grab the attention of everyone in the room and give them that vibe of she is singing to me, it is a good move for a great musician.

Thanks, brother Chuck! It was a toss-up between this original and a later live performance that was really good. I shared them with my girlfriend and a good music bud, and they both liked this original from '81 as well as the live version. So, I went withe OG classic that takes me back in time when a young Petty and his Heartbreakers burst onto the scene. Love Mike Campbell's stellar guitar riffs! Merry Christmas, brother!

yes it is my older sis a big tom petty nd the heartbreakers fan has this on one of his albums i remember on one 4th of July in the mid to late 80's that signature sound they have up to the mid 90's they kinda change a bit for a good bit of time after but that classic opening bass and frontline lick is something you can pick out of nowhere and immediately know it is them.

Sonically and temporally close to Tom & the Heartbreakers' "Hard Promises" album back in '81. Stevie lent her beautiful textured voice to backing a couple tracks there, which is where she really first caught my attention (I was late to her vocal party).
@leannmiller715319 сағат бұрын
@erickent3557 that makes sense, since it probably would have been on the album if Tom hadn’t decided to take back Insider from Stevie, and give her this. Tom and Heartbreakers had already recorded it, just not as a duet. Iovine just put Stevie’s voice over Tom’s lead vocals.

Tom Petty wrote a song called The Insider originally intended for Nicks, but he changed his mind. However, you can find them sing it together and it's a hidden treasure.
@mikecaetano17 сағат бұрын
Classic tunage. Dig the harmonies in the chorus. The song ruled rock radio that entire decade. Mike Campbell always plays tasty licks that draw out and expand the song rather than overwhelm it. For more tasty licks like that also check out Tom Petty "Breakdown" and "You Got Lucky".
I saw Tom and Stevie perform this live at a county fair in Northern California back in the 1980s. It was awesome.

Stevie wrote a song for the Streets of Fire soundtrack. Great movie; awesome soundtrack. However, the greatest song on that soundtrack is “Tonight is what it means to be young” written by the incredible Jim Steinman. You will never be the same if you watch that video. Guaranteed.

I love this song, and it was so popular when it came out. They do another duet on Hard Promises titled Insider. It's a great song too. I think Stop Draggin My Heart Around got more airplay than anything off Hard Promises which is a shame as it's my favorite TP&THB album.
