Lyrics:
Caught up in a whirlwind can't catch my breath
Knee deep in hot water broke out in a cold sweat
Can't catch a turtle in this rat race
Feels like I'm losin' time at a breakneck pace
Afraid of my own shadow in the face of grace
Heart full of darkness spotlight on my face
There was love all around me but I was lookin' for revenge
Thank God it never found me would have been the end
walkin' the tightrope steppin' on my friends
Walkin' the tightrope (it) was a shame and a sin
Walkin' the tightrope between wrong and right
Walkin' the tightrope both day and night
Lookin' back in front of me in the mirror's a grin
Through eyes of love I see I'm really lookin' at a friend
We've all had our problems that's the way life is
My heart goes out to others who are there to make amends
We've been walkin' the tightrope tryin' to make it right
Walkin' the tightrope every day and every night
Walkin' the tightrope bring it all around
Walkin' the tightrope from the lost to found
Walkin' the tightrope stretched around the world
Walkin' the tightrope save the boys and girls
Walkin' the tightrope let's make it right
Walkin' the tightrope do it do it tonight
Walkin' the tightrope

Don't discount that SRV paid much tribute of inspiration to Jimi Hendrix. Listen to Electric Ladyland to get a clue into Hendrix's briiliance. If you have never listened, you would never know. They both passed the audition and playing in God's band now.

You are obviously uneducated in musical evolvement Listen to Wes Montgomery's octave leads, who inspired Jimi Hendrix ( Third Stone from the Sun) and also Alvin Lee. ( I can't keep from crying) who inspired Stevie Ray. Listen to Jimi's Electric Ladyland. Even Bob Dylan, tips his hat to Jimi, by in live performance playing his own song in Jimi's intro re-arrangement. Jimi and Stevie Ray were promoted to God's band now. Jimi"s fantastic electric guitarism blew away Clapton, Beck, Townshend, and all that followed. There is a video of Jimi playing " Voodoo Child" in 1966, while the top # 1 hit in America was the Beach Boys " Help me Rhonda". Jimi is the dude that changed it all from pop to way beyond. Never forget that.

I saw Stevie at The Orpheum in Boston in October '84. About a third of the way into the show the microphone cut out mid song. Instead of stopping, he and the band just kept playing and jammed for about 5-10 minutes while the stage crew fixed it...at this pace too not some slow jam. When the mic was fixed they slid back into the song seamlessly and kept going. Absolutely amazing. I'll never forget it. He was the greatest.

I used to have to spend weekends with my dad, who was divorced from my mom. I was at his house one miserable weekend, when I stayed up late and by chance, caught this performance on TV. Just an amazing memory, one that elevated me out of my miserable childhood. Was just a kid, and didn’t know who he was, but was so mesmerized by his performance. Had no clue that another human could be so talented at something. Still to this day, I will watch this performance, and am brought back to the amazement I felt as a kid. No matter whether you like his music or not, you can’t do anything but appreciate the obscene amount of talent he had. Sometimes humans take an art form and elevate it to something godlike. Ferocious. Stevie's playing that night was on a level that was almost superhuman - even for him. His fucking tone, just unbelievable - even for him. You can tell me you like other artists more- that's cool. You can tell me you prefer other SRV tunes- I dig. You can tell me he's done more melodic solos or deeper emotional grooves or whatever- I love you for it. However- for me- this is the 5 minutes in all of eternity, for which the guitar was invented. All stringed instruments throughout history envy the Strat we see here as it reaches the pinnacle of musical magic in the hands of the ultimate wizard.

DANG, that guitar solo that kicks off around 1:18 is just pure Stevie magic. Stevie always said he played guitar like he was breaking out of jail. He wasn't kidding.
@101Volts
@101Volts 2 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong at all, but that "breaking out of jail" line might have something to do with this: Stevie's supposed to have said he decided to really _do_ something with his life that day he was working at a janky fast food joint, diner, or restaurant. He fell into a tub of cooking grease. He was taking trash out or something, and was told to stand on a piece of wood over a 55 gallon drum full. Well, that board or whatever it was broke under his weight, and he fell into the drum of used cooking oil. So his supervisor or whoever comes out and starts yelling at him over it instead of being concerned if Stevie's hurt or anything. Stevie eventually thinks something like "There's gotta be a better life for me than _this"_ and he ends up being the famous guitar man we all know. I might have a few details off here, but that's the general direction that I read.
@judyisbell
@judyisbell 2 жыл бұрын
@@101Volts, sounds like the same thing I've heard Stevie say in interviews. He tried to scrape together cash as a kid by working at a Dairy Mart in Dallas, but his experience of being abused there made him realize he didn't want to work "for the man." Better to follow his muse and if he starved, he starved. He went through some lean years, but he stuck with it.

Double Trouble. People overlook their tightness as a rhythm section. Laying the perfect, smooth groove down for SRV. So simple, elegant and understated, yet absolutely necessary. Watch Voodoo Child from this same show. They get lost because the pocket they're creating is for one of the greatest guitarist to ever play. But they're greatness in their own right. Stevie was drug and alcohol free and those 3 just crushed it in this show.
