Raven is such a master at real, actual working. Working the crowd. Playing the crowd to make them think they're in charge. *That* is what makes a good worker. NOT doing 500 moves.

Right to Censor was not "over"...they were legitimately hated and nobody wanted to see them come out because it meant all fun was about to stop for awhile. A Heel being over makes you want to see them...we specifically did not even want to see Stevie and them come out.

He absolutely stood out. It was SO ECW. So 90's with the long hair etc....and it fit Raven's and Stevie's characters perfectly. Raven wore the long jean shorts, the flannel while Stevie whole the cut offs. It was comical and over the top but it absolutely stood out more than just regular tights and everyone else wore.

Some younger fans don't realize how uncool hair metal was in that era where grunge was king. Watching Stevie wear those Cinderella/Poison/Stryper etc. t-shirts in that grungy ECW crowd was great.

Stevie Richards always reminded me of some goofy metalheads I knew at the time, and I think that worked for him. Around that time there were still guys who hadn't given up on the hair metal thing and didn't know cut-off shirts and shorts on guys were goofy, and Stevie seemed to be that guy. He was relatable, even if you thought he was kind of a doofus. But a likeable doofus. You KNEW guys like that.

That's part of what made ECW over the cartoonish WWF of that time. People like Stevie, Raven, Sandman, Tommy Dreamer. They were REAL. It wasn't a gimmick so much as an extension of who they were. Which WWF/E saw and copied. ECW might have been 3rd place in ratings, but they were number one in influence.

I was fortunate enough to sit ringside at all but a handful of ECW Arena shows from 95 until the end, plus a ton of other shows in NJ\NY\PA, and all I can say to the people who didn't experience it live as it was happening, you'll never truly understand how awesome it was. There was never anything like it in the past, and in spite of how many times it's been attempted, there's never been anything like it since. Sitting in a hot ass bingo hall in South Philadelphia, beer flowing like you're at a frat party, watching these amazing stories unfold right before your eyes while feeling a sense of comradery with the other 1300 fans in attendance, seeing the same faces in the crowd every 3 weeks, it was an indescribable experience. We were part of a movement that will never be duplicated.

Boy we sure did! 🤣. I was an 80’s metal guy but by 1991 I was worn out with it. So I changed my music to punk rock and “alternative” rock. And that’s when us Gen X’rs started loving the villains like Stone Cold, Rock and Raven. I love 80’s metal again now that I’m older. But the 90’s were special times for rock and wrestling.

In the NYC/northern NJ (different from south jersey which is right near ecw's home base in Philadelphia ) area ECW came on Saturday nights after midnight (i think 1am, but not 100%) on the MSG sports channel. That's the channel affiliated with the world's most famous arena where the NY Knicks and Rangers play. It was super late at night, but it's not like they were on public access. I'm really surprised they didn't get on trouble for the super popular music they used.

Eastern Championship Wrestling on Sportsc channel Philadelphia. Holy fuck! Unlike anything I'd ever seen!! This Arabian guy, Sabu, scars all over his body, going through tables. Everyone in the promotion. It was dirty, sexy with Francine, Kimona. Shane cutting the Dick Flair promos. To me, iconic stuff. Genius on Heymans part. Grunge. Perfect wrestling for the times. I thought 20 years or so was enough. Takes us to 2013. Give or take. That was 10 years ago. I've been so tired of it ever since. Enough please!!! Get in the fucking ring.

Stevie in that get-up seemed so loveable, unapologetic and babygirl. It's too bad that the WCW/ECW crowds conflated his wearing that gear with some kind of effeminate or 'weak' connotation (a monolithic, misogynistic and homophobic attitude, but that's another convo).
