These beach movies were great for the times. And who would think that these films featured some of the popular acts of the time. James Brown was featured in Ski Party as well..and don't forget Donna Loren, the Dr Pepper Girl during the 60s..

I Dressed as Candy for a Halloween party a couple of years ago and everyone new who I was supposed to be, it was a blast. The dj played a bunch of music like this and I almost threw a hip out. I won 1st place for the sexiest and the most original. No therapy for me yet.....LOL

Did you know that the Late Ronnie White Of The Miracles helped Stevie get into Motown. Stevie also holds the distinction of being on every American Bandstand TV Special from 1972, 1977, 1982, 1985 (To Celebrate 33 1/3 Years On The Air,) 1992 and the last in 2002.

I saw this movie when I was a kid, but Stevie and Candy's boogie at the end are all I remember about this film. However, I can tell you that this tune appears on the Motown album "Stevie at the Beach." Stevie himself has gone on record as hating that album, but I used to practice my Chromatic Harmonica from listening to it. Some of Stevie's best early Chromatic Harmonica playing is on that album.

Thanks for the tip. I'm writing a memoir and these beach movies, especially with the soul music heroes like Stevie, the Supremes, and James Brown, who is in the immortal "Ski Party".

Saw this in the drive-in movie back when it came out. The movie was the usual dumb drool about beach babes & muscle dudes, but loved Stevie Wonder first time I saw that happy lil guy reaching wide to clap his hands.

Along with the Three Stooges features from the same time (same with the bulk of the Elvis flicks) the Beach Party (and the eventual clones) movie were afterschool treats as a kid in the 1970's.

On this day in 1964 {March 25th} "Muscle Beach Party," opened in theaters across the U.S.A. and Canada, it was the second of seven beach party films starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello... Stevie's "Happy Street" wasn't released as a single, but at the time his "Castles In the Sand*" was at #62 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; a little under three weeks later on April 12th it peaked at #52 {for 1 week}, the following week it fell to #66 and that was it's ninth and last week on the Top 100... * "Castles In the Sand" was his third and last charted record were he used the name 'Little Stevie Wonder', after that it was just plain 'Stevie Wonder'...

thanks for posting this -- I just read about it in a biography of Stevie which I'm reading now ("Signed Sealed Delivered" by Mark Ribowsky) -- when I read about Stevie in "beach blanket" movies I couldn't believe it -- until I saw this clip! :-)

Stevie Wonder lost his sight after he was placed in an incubator and given excessive oxygen within hours of his birth. He has since then made several attempts to regain his sight including the recent chip operation. Wonder has grown to be a successful music icon in his engagements. Omg. LOL. really people come on!
