The best concert I've ever seen in my life. He appeared on the stage with no music and stood with his daughter and let the crowd know that his dead mother's spirit told him that he should tour again to get him out of his depression from her death. He then opened with this song by himself on piano, and by the first chorus the band walked on the stage in unison from both sides and by the second verse they were playing. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. It was a spiritual, moving, thoughtful concert, and when it was over everyone there floated out of it filled with love and joy from what they saw and heard. I'll never forget it.

I'm so glad you had that experience. A character in a show I watch was repeatedly her and she had turn to vengeance. It the end of her long journey of payday and retribution, she said that in the end, she chose to see the beauty. I've always wanted to be that person.

Love's In Need Of Love Today, the opening song sets the tone for the emotionally opaque nature of much of side one. Following the semi-choral soul opening, Stevie's trusty Fender Rhodes kicks in, and he plays the messenger: love's in danger, and only you and everyone else can save it. Funk Brother Eddie "Bongo" Brown pops up with some percussion; otherwise, it's a Wonder-only performance, including the playing of the phased Clavinet. The coda is the first of Stevie's many amazing vocal workouts, with its endlessly varied and inventive ad-libbing on the phrases of the chorus, interweaving of his lead and own backing vocals, not to mention the calming but no less heartbreaking interlude just over a minute from the end.

Yes, Stevie was with Motown on "Songs of the Key of Life". He's always been with Motown or Tamala records, which is a division of Motown. This album was recorded on the Tamala label, but he did other albums under the "Motown" label as well. This album came out in 1976....I was 16 y/o at the time. One of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion. Also, the "Gordy" label was another Motown division.

Please don't miss out on his musical history. So great albums like this one. Reccomend Stevie's Original Musiquariam Volumes 1 and 2

You made me laugh at the end with the comparisons of communication in the 70's and nowadays , but listen, am i the only one, with this pandemic, who's retracing back to the analogue ? So even though it's not on the Blue Motown. Tampa was a offshoot of Motown. Stevie actually renegotiated his contract with Motown so he could get more creative control, in exchange for his publishing rights and own Music Co.which was Jobette publishing, he agreed to stay with Motown. The FIRST artist to demand their publishing rights and creative control. Set the tone and paved the way for future artists to get the courage to ask for the same freedom to express their own type and style of music.

Great reactions guys. Unfortunately, as great as Stevie is, he does not play all the instruments...in fact Greg Phillinganes often plays keyboards on many of his songs in studio and in concert. Lastly, yes Stevie Wonder was still with Motown at that time, in fact he's never left (one of only a few).

I am a black man... and I am not trying to sound racist at all... but I noticed that the guy is really digging the music... he is bopping his head the whole time... but the woman is much more feeling the words and pics being shown...she seems to be almost in tears... I feel that those pics coupled with the music lyrics hit home more for her than for him...
