A lot of people here saying "Died too young." but that little hell raiser made it to 68 years old somehow. I saw one of his last gigs at the Byron Bay " Legends of Rock" event in 2009. He was still able to conjure up the lusty demons that he had fought with all his life and get them to blow the crowd away. He was majestic.

One of our brilliant Aussie singers (I think it was Jimmy Barnes) once said that Stevie Wright was the greatest rock n roll frontman Australia has ever seen. Such a tragedy he died so young, but he lived the life, and he was absolutely bloody amazing. The Easybeats were brilliant. I wasn't born until 1972, but I am a huge fan of 60s and 70s Aussie music. Had the privilege of meeting Stevie a few times in the last years before he passed away, and what a darling man he was. So sweet, and he loved nothing more than talking about his rock n roll days. I cherish the memories 💕

Yes, Stevie Wright, like Bon Scott, was phenomenal & left us far too early. Recommend Guitar Band for a real rocker, or the iconic Evie Pts 1,2,& 3 which is legendary Aussie rock.

Holy-snapping-duckspit YES!! So happy you enjoyed that. This was my childhood... as a little kid growing up in the '70s, we Aussies had THE best "soundtrack to life". In this song, I love the slower tempo change bit - it reminds me of Show Me the Way to St Louis from Stevie's Easybeats days (and he did a great version of it solo) - it and Evie 1, 2, 3 are my favourite Stevie Wright songs, His '74 "Hard Road" &'75 "Black Eyed Bruiser" albums are flippin' brilliant.

Like you I grew up in the '70s. Hard to believe we took this for granted. Not just on Countdown, but on the radio etc.. So many bands and artists that are so good, it makes my head hurt when I try to count them all up.

Hi, I am from the USA and we also had some 👍 music. We had the time of are life's too. But we didn't get the chance to hear anything from Australia or any other groups from other countries. I think that it's sad that happened because there was a lot of great music from all over that everyone missed out on. Every body just kinda kept their music to them selves. And only a few bands made it anywhere else. It is sad that I only heard the Bee Gees and the seekers. It was in the 1970s that we got to hear from the Australian music Air Supply Little River Band Men At Work. Didn't even know that The Little River Band was from Australia 🌏. Every body had some great music to offer. To bad that we didn't get any of it

@@OldiesMommaAussie bands were amazing, and most of them did the hard yards in pubs, therefore they are known as Aussie pub rock. I was born in 1960, and grew up hearing amazing music that the rest of the world didn’t hear, and they were quality bands! We all took it for granted as that’s what we heard every day but now that I’m old I wish that I could go back and hear it all again and appreciate it more. Aussie music is just different, because we were such a long way from everywhere else, bands made their own sound, not following everyone else. You had to live here then to appreciate how lucky we were and how spoilt we were. Cheers.

Yeah it's like Bon sort of backdoored Stevie ,copied has mannerisms stage presents i do know ac/dc did want Stevie for there front man but he was just far too messed up on drugs & booze & was not functional George Young did in fact write this song & Malcolm did fill in on 3 concerts Stevie did when Malcolm was only 17 it's sort of very much like early ac/dc in way .

I couldn’t agree more. The Hunters were one of the most tight and talented bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing live, at the Uni Bar at UTas Sandy Bay. I was dragged along, not being a fan, but I became fully converted during that night in around 1994-95!

Just love it . He actually was born in the UK but migrated to Australia and they were living in Villawood , where he met other boys from the UK and they use to sing together and they were 10 years old . When he was 16 he was sing songs in the group called The Easy Beats . In the 70’s he started up the Stevie Wright band . They are Aussie legends .

Just love Stevie Wright. He had some great songs. “Guitar Band” is a close second to “Evie” (love that one) for me. Please give that one a try. Not sure if this song is from the “pens” of Vanda & Young, but they them selves released a couple of great tracks under the stage name of FLASH and the PAN, “Down among the Dead Men”, and “Hey St Peter” my favs. Great reaction. Thanks for keeping old Aussie rock alive.

Australian rock 'n' roll Royalty here. Quick explanation of the dynasty - Stevie was singer in The Easybeats, one of the early Aussie bands to make it big outside Aus. The Easybeats were formed by a group of guys living in an immigration centre in Sydney. Also in The Easybeats were George Young (older brother of Angus & Malcolm of AC/DC) and Harry Vanda. George & Harry went on after The Easybeats to write & produce massive hits for many different artists, across a diverse range, from hard rocking Aussie pub bands to smooth grooves with Grace Jones. We have a man named Ted Albert, of Albert Records to thank for this dynasty, because he recognised the talent & appeal of The Easybeats & backed them.

The guys that wrote this Vanders and Young were the guitarists in the same band Stevie Wright was in the Easybeats. The were probably the most influential songwriters and producers in Australia. In 1975 they would have been also writing for George's Young little brother's band AC/DC amongst others. Harry Vanders and George Young are the George and Harry mentioned in Dire Straits song Sultanas of Swing.

Stevie at this stage was just starting out on heroin. If he'd stayed clean, there's every chance he may have been in the position Bon Scott found himself in at just that moment. Is incredible to see and hear this, and then see Bon emulate this on the early ACDC recordings. He was channelling Stevie 100%. And I say that as a Bon Scott, ACDC, Fraternity etc fan. I would say Stevie was the man, but then you had Vanda and Young in on the act. Fuck me, such talent. Musical geniuses those two.
