Do you know what I like about Steve? He’s just a regular guy out there and make an awesome projects. He’s not arrogant, he’s not trying to act like he’s better than you, he’s just a normal guy doing cool stuff. Definitely my favorite woodworker on KZbin. Hands-down.

Agreed. I also like that, as he got more popular and no doubt started to make a decent living off this, he didn't immediately go out and purchase all Festool equipment. For me, (and I can't stress that enough... just for me), once I see a woodworker with all Festool I can no longer see myself doing what they do. Sorry, Festool enthusiasts, the tools are no doubt awesome, but I find it ridiculous and a little pretentious to pay that much for tools.

Cool concept, looks like a fun game with a lot of playing options! I too liked the look of the furniture nails... I guess you could have drilled all of those holes through the plastic and used the furniture nails on the outside, I'll bet it wouldn't hang up on them if you did it that way.

Problem is if for whatever reason you need to remove the plexiglass you'd have to remove all of the nails, too. Plus you'd have to poke a bunch more holes through the plexiglass, which increases your chance of messing up somehow and scratching it.
@raymitchell9736
@raymitchell9736 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielleanderson6371 Those are good reasons not to do it that way... it's too bad those nails didn't work out I thought they looked really good, any ideas how to save it so that Steve could have make the game with those nails?
@danielleanderson6371
@danielleanderson6371 2 жыл бұрын
@@raymitchell9736 Maybe with shorter nails that didn't need to pierce the wood back, you could just put them through the plexiglass. That way if you need to take the front off all the pegs just come with it and won't need to line up with any holes when you reassemble. Of course that doesn't solve the second problem I mentioned, but you could probably use paper or something to protect the plexiglass while you make the holes. Alternatively, you could use thinker pieces that wouldn't get wedged above the domes. Those would probably have to be wood instead of washers.
@raymitchell9736
@raymitchell9736 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielleanderson6371 How about go back to the original design but use colored marbles? The nails would likely have to be closer together but I don't think the marbles would get caught like the washers. And I know they also make wooden balls that you can paint if you wanted to keep wood themed.

Something else that could create more playing options is to have reversible washers/landing pads, where one side is a unique color, and the other side is either black or white. That way you could probably have some different playing options.

I was thinking one way you could have used those large headed nails would have been to drill both the base and plexiglass as the same time and had the head outside instead of under the plexi, You would probably need to use some sort of spacer when driving the nails so they don't bend the plexi.

sometimes when you exit a cut, it can chip off corners. I do a starter cut on one side, then flip it over and cut all the way thru to eliminate potential stress at the ends. If you really have a problem, you can also use painters tape to ensure clean cuts.
@theJmanStriketh
@theJmanStriketh 2 жыл бұрын
Also drilling can be a pain for some/many plastics. Exiting the hole can be an issue if you're not careful. You can risk it with normal bits, or they make special drill bits. Check online to see what issues you might run into.

I would have elevated this by using those furniture nails but put them through that plexi-glass so head above glass and not interfering with washer - Of course I am not familiar with mechanics of that game and I don't know if it's mandatory for nail to have head under plexiglass... Also I don't know will it affect on that lovely sound that washer is making when they do fall throught that game. this latter can probably be solved by making thru-hole slight bigger than nail so nail has still room to vibrate and larger hole still will be hidden by head of nail.

They make down-cut jigsaw blades which work great for template and laminate work as they help push down the template whereas standard up-cut blades work to pull the template/laminate up as was happening in your video. When template or laminate work matters I always use down-cut blades and always have a few on my kit.

Cool video, Steve. My problem isn't how to get machinery, I already have a complete wood shop in a storage room. I just can't find anyone willing to loan me any money to rent a small building to put it all in so I can go back to work. I had a running wood shop until the landlord sold the building out from under me when property prices went so high.

I've had the worst luck cutting plexi with my regular table saw blade. the chip outs are insane. So I use a special blade for cutting plastic with like 200 teeth on it. but it's only 7" for a circular saw. I put that in my table saw and get better results.

Scoring plexiglass with a razor a couple of times and snapping it over the edge of a desk works very well if you aren't in possession of a table saw. It snaps nice and clean and straight with about 100% less mess to clean up.

I like it, particularly the addition of the removable targets. I wonder a few things 1) How easy is it to get the targets out? It seems like you'd want a finger notch at the front, or a depression at the front so you can press down and cause the back to lift so you can grab it. 2) How well will the paint hold up on the washers? It seems like you might want to put grease on the edges of the washers so they're bare metal and then use primer and paint to get a durable bond. 3) How well will the landing pads hold up? Would it make sense to cut acrylic pads out of the scrap instead? You could make them 2 different ways (or 2 sets), one for use with custom printed paper targets (points, colors, whatever) or with colors painted on the back side (safe from chipping off).
