The raynox 250 is useful as a carry around add-on for a macro lens. I use the 100mm macro and then pop the raynox on the front if the insect is calm or still warming up for a closer shot. Much better than taking your lens off to add tubes each time. I prefer the mp-e 65mm for studio work but have used the raynox on occasions and is a much cheaper alternative for someone wanting a bit more magnification. Ive done macro many years and would be happy to recommend the raynox 250 but would say dont go for the higher magnifications than 250 as those really start to distort your images and are much harder to work with.

This lens add-on is beautiful. Sharp and a cheap option if you can't afford a real macro lens. I found the DCR-250 (8x dioptre) too powerful and had to buy a DCR-150 (4x) instead. I used it on a bridge camera with a fixed lens with great results.

One thing that it might be great for that I didn't see you mention is that it should allow you to to use your 100mm macro lens at a further distance if 1x magnification is enough but your subjects are skittish. Adding the raynox to a macro 100mm in the field should allow a slightly greater distance from subject for the same 1x magnification as not using it?

Hello stewart! I love macro photography and i love taking pictures of insects and flowers and butterflies I have one question for you I have nikon d3100 with 55-300 zoom lens,i have no plans for buying any prime lenses yet.will you suggest me to buy this Raynox dcr 250 for my zoom lens?i am a little confused to pick between an extension tubes and Raynox. I have read that Raynox is good with longer zooms and will not lose light and easier to use whereas extension tubes can have darker viewfinder and also time consuming in the field when used with zoom lens. Or shall i opt for dcr 150? Your suggestion is highly appreciated!

I myself got the more strong Raynox 650, for a BRUTAL macro. I've also got the same Canon 100mm f/2.8L lens. And, just to contribute to macro collection, I have Laowa 15mm f/4 wide-angle macro lens. Trying different setups, I was not actually able to get any reasonable shots with 650 on top of my 100mm macro lens - the focusing distance just gets blown away and you literally *have* to stick your lens (well, adapter in this case) in the subject. And none of the insects will appreciate that. Canon's 100mm on its own works just fine. Same for Laowa, except two things: you get a great amount of background and you still *can* get extremely close to the subjects (almost stick it into the subject - you will still be able to focus). With Raynox 650 however, I was only able to get reasonable supermacro shots using focus stacking, which is not really the case with most of the insects. So now I am thinking of either getting a Canon MP-65 (5x magnification) or Raynox 250 (for a smaller magnification ratio on top of my 100mm lens) to put it into good use.
@StewartWoodArt5 жыл бұрын
I also want the Canon MP-E 65mm lens, it looks awesome :)

@@StewartWoodArt just saw another video today, there is a good alternative to this 20-year old Canon lens, Laowa 25mm f/2.8. It is pretty much the same - all manual, also gives 2.5x .. 5x magnification, but costs approx. twice less.
@StewartWoodArt5 жыл бұрын
I'm not keen on that lens, I like the option of 1x on the canon and also there are no filter threads on the lens so you have to buy into their system.

Thanks for your presentation of this product. Do you have to buy a conversion adapter (i.e., your 49-52mm) for each lens one owns? Raynox states: "The lens includes a snap-on universal mount suitable for 52mm to 67mm filter size." So, I am confused by their statement implying I can just snap this on to any lens within and including 52-67. And your use of a converter adapter. I am thing to use something like this with Panasonic / Olympus M4/3 lenses with 52 and 58mm adapter diameters. Thanks.

I am so confused. I found a video and also a forum the other day that said the Raynox Super Macro Conversion Lens (DCR 250) was compatible with the Canon Powershot SX70 HS. I just now received the lens in the mail and it appears to me that it is NOT compatible. So, I figured I needed another adapter ring to add to it. I had hoped my old filter rings (for my old Canon Powershot SX50 HS) would do the trick, but it appears not. (It doesn't seem to attach and I'm not about to force it). I guess the filter/adapter for that old Canon isn't also compatible with the SX70. The manual for my Canon Powershot SX70 that I'm using now says the filter adapter has to be "FA-DC67A, and that an adapter is required when mounting a 67mm filter." Does anyone else here have the same camera as me? Will the Raynox Macro lens fit my camera with the 67mm adapter ring? I hate to think that I just wasted money on this thing. I was really excited, and it was an early birthday gift. (And I did research it beforehand, but it seems what I read online was incorrect). Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

@@StewartWoodArt Thank You for the swift reply, but I finally got the darn thing to clip on. I don't know if the spring on the macro lens was messed up, or if I was just being too careful in attaching it to the camera. (My old camera broke during the holidays, and this camera was a Christmas gift so I am super paranoid about scratching the lens. I can't live without my camera either). I am going to get a new adapter though, because I think it'll be safer for the camera. My old adapter ring for the SX50 just isn't fitting. I would have to force it to fit and I'm not about to do that with such an expensive camera/gift. I'd sooner pay the $10 for the adapter.
