PVA worked like charm!! Spent 3 hours sanding down the fairing without the PVA, it was miserable (only on a 5 foot section). I've literally replicated your entire process for my first restoration on the 17 lol... Month later from my last comment, sanding fairing tomorrow.. Still gotta figure out how im going to flip the damn thing, im limited on space but should be ready to prime the top this weekend... Should have flipped it first, but doing it a** backwards..Just wanted to say thanks.

I noticed those brass drains fall apart and water ends up getting in there. Did you notice any when you did yours? Trying to figure out if I need to cut out the floor there and refill the foam

the old whalers allways have a little intrusion mine was actually relitvly dry. you can check how saturated the boat is by weighing it. 320 lbs empty hull for a classic 13 with cut out transom. for me tearing out saturated foam is not worth the work. also when you replace the brass fitting use 5200 sealant (alot) skip the o-ring

What is the fairing compound for?

its like bondo. it fills in imperfections small dents dings cracks depressions. it is not structural just a finish layer to make things smooth. easy to sand also.
