I have the Steyr Scout in .223, just love it for target shooting, a great rifle.

I have a Steyr Scout that looks like yours ("Mud" or Flat Dark Earth"). Mine is chambered in .308 Winchester. I chose that caliber because as of the time of this writing, .308 Win is $0.85 per round, while 6.5 Creedmore (while a great cartridge) is pushing upwards of $2.00 per round. If you're going deer hunting, and shoot it once or twice...that's no big deal. But if you're plinking...it can add up. Great video, btw!

I have just ordered one in the same caliber. What kind of ammo does it like and what kind of groups do you get at 100 and 200 yards?

I don’t really care at this point what people say Cooper would or would not have approved of. And other than it not being a military caliber it definitely fits the bill. Nice quick review.

Nice video! Not a fan of forward mounted scopes, I put a Gen 2 1x6 Vortex on the exact same rifle. Should be a wonderful deer gun! First impressions at 100 yards are encouraging. Would like to take this combo out to 300 - 500 yards and see what's possible:).

Is the maximum effective range of the Steyr Scout 7.62 * 51 mm NATO 800 meters?
@garrettstiles7808 Жыл бұрын
Depends what you mean by "effective." Out of that 19" barrel using Hornady Superformance 168gr you should see about 2,700fps at the muzzle, meaning it's dropping an inch every 5yds by 400yds, you'd retain 1,000lb-ft at 700yds, and stay supersonic to 1,200yds. I'd call those the max effective ranges for practical hunting, long range hunting, and target shooting (respectively), but again it depends on how you define the terms.

What is the scope please?

I think Steyr should offer this in 6.5 Grendel and 7.62x39. That would be more "ideal" in today's world. Will they listen? Probably not, given they thread the muzzles for 1/2x20.

Totally agree! 6.5G in a micro-length action for less weight, faster cycling and takes STANAG mags?! Like an improved/scout version of a CZ 527. A man can dream.

I sure like my JC Scout rifle. I have had it now close to 20 years, hunting here in N. Idaho. I have killed a lot of deer and elk with it, chambered in .308. Mine shoots .5MOA all day with Trophy Bonded Bearclaws. Killed a bull elk last week with it, neck shot that flattened him. It carries great, have hundreds of miles packing it in rough mountainous country in all kinds of nasty weather. Having one in 6.5 CM would be awesome too as my wife has a Christensen Arms 6.5 and has killed deer, sheep and moose with it. I ended up changing the extended eye relief scope for a 2.5-10 NF scope with a custom ballistic reticle that matches my hand loads. Really like the Steyr and retired my Pre-64 SG Winchester without any second thoughts.

Well I don't kill animals with this , but I truly think that this rifle will serve well on border police defence role
