You could have just put the flux on the chip, held it with your tweezers and plugged it in and it would have just come off by itself.

I was actually worried about the way you did it because you didn't check the capacitors when the chip was off. So if it was a shorted capacitor that blew out the first chip, it would have blown out your replacement one.

Yep, it is tricky because if it was on anything but a power rail it would draw normal power until the new chip was added and it blew out the pin (and rest of chip) and shorted it out again.

Mine went faulty, same symptoms. I had a powered usb hub connected to one of the controller ports. The hub went faulty, the power surge took out the Realtek chip 😢

If they change the BOM (Build of Materials) for ICs (usually) they change the version of the board. Sometimes that means if they use (for example) Hynix memory chips rather than Samsung they change the board version so that they know which versions they are dealing with. It allows for metrics on which boards come back and for what reasons.

The untested lie reminds me of going into a Pawn America once. They warranty all electronics for x amount of time. BUT there was one corner where they had a shelf of miscellaneous electronics that had a sign that said "All work but sold as is." Yeah, sure they do.

You do know that some sellers legitimately can't test consoles right? Like anything, theres going to be nefarious players. But I picked up a lot of 5 consoles from a yard sale last year, and the master system and og Xbox didn't include cables. So I just sold as is. Both buyers got lucky and they worked!

You probably didn't even have to use heatgun to remove that chip. Just add a bit of flux, connect USB power and poke it with tweezers - voila!
