I know! I really struck lucky with this one, I've been keeping my eye out for a ps5 for ages. Every other listing just gave me that feeling of 'this has been opened up several times by several people'! This one was a cracking buy! 👍

@@StezStixFix I did look for a one too, but even broken ones seem to fetch a fair penny. There was one the other day, but when I read the listing I think they said they had tried to repair it themselves which obviously put me off it as you know what that usually means!

@@BuyitFixit Yea, it normally means that some idiot managed to bend the prongs of the PSU so that they now both go into the same hole. Or did that just happen to me? The PS4 Pro was fine otherwise.

@@MyRegardsToTheDodo in my experience you have a much better chance of repairing something if you are the first person into something. Some stuff on Ebay has already attempted to be repaired. Reminds me of the invader 10000 I repaired. It was a right mess!

A Sony console with drive issues I am shocked, its not like its happened on every generation of the consoles I've ever had which in each resulted in me hacking them as Sony wouldn't repair their design faults.

7:05 into the video is your problem with it taking a disc properly. The slider on the side if you look carefully the front tooth is damaged

The feeling of succses 7:53! I bought a Ps4 Pro a few month ago for 50€, the problem was, that it freezes for a moment during gameplay. I cleaned the whole console, get new thermal paste, and swaped the HDD to a SSD and "whoooya", works like a charm!

This was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. My disc drives been struggling for months and i've honestly had enough but everything else works fine. I'm so dissappointed in it because i have so many physical games. I never understand why its such a problem to do a basic function that used to be in everything back in the day. I literally had a cd player and i was always touching the lens on it never once did it break.

My Son's did that. It would often say the disc was unsupported. He did drop it one day. But talking to a guy from PSE he gave me 2 files. 1 was to wipe everything apart from the files to make it boot up. The second file was, ver 1.1 to build the system and go searching for newest build and updates. But it made the drive work perfectly. Infact, it worked too well as the PS5 could now play BD's from the UAs.

I'm about to try this on my own ps5. Had it for 3 years, mostly play digital but have a few disk. One day it decided to stop reading disk's and i dont have money to buy a new drive. Also have history repairing my switch myself so im willing to give it a go

....What. So, basically you got a working PS5 for £300.. While up or down here, a new one costs, without shipping, converted to pounds.. Somewhere between £550-£600. Not at all jealous, not one bit. Btw, I never skip the rap. It's such a neat way to thank your patrons, and it's fun to see how you utilize your regulars, always ending it with the legend.. Munkeyjoe Tokyo. No clue who it is. But the name is too good, you HAVE to end it with that. It's such a nice gesture, I don't get why it bugs some people. And it's just FUN.

I get like five or six of those a week now for HDMI replacements. They’re awesome units. Just make sure you have some liquid metal on hand. I’ve had to add a little too two or three of them now in the last couple weeks. Don’t know how they dry out.

Years ago i had the same problem with my wii. I used a cleaner cd made for dvd players and it fixed it. Not sure if they still make them. The disk has tiny brushes on it.

I got a "broken" PS4 a couple of years ago, and when I received it it STUNK of cigarette smoke. First thing I did was buy a "CD lens cleaner" (a CD with a brush on it). After running it it worked FIRST TIME. Seems that they had been blowing cigarette smoke into the drive... 😬😀

It could be beneficial to do some preventive maintenance and put some conformal coating around the cpu die as the liquid metal Sony use can move and short components around the die.

The security tape can be peeled back with alcohol and once the alcohol is evaporated you should be able to put it back on good as new

The drives on PS5 do sound horrible. I would have thought they would have improved this from PS4 to PS5, but noPE. My PS4 Pro drive is doing something similar to this. But me, too, scared to take it apart like you :(

At first i thought there is a small plastic piece ore something stuck in the disc drive. Had a similar issue once on a PS3. Bute this one was really an easy fix. 😊

You could use IPA to loosen the seals and maintain their “intact” look when you reapply. I know that KZbinr “OddTinkering” does that when he encounters security labels
