Sti valve cam tick

Just a normal noisy sti engine. 2006 sti, 27,000 miles. Has sounded like this since I got it with 19k on the speedo. Sounds quieter with amsoil signature synthetic. Louder with shell rotella t6(what is in it now)

Normal Sounds. Theyre just loud engines. I found its actually quieter with amsoil signature synthetic vs the shell rotella t6.

2002 wrx does it too, been doing it ever since I bought it but haven’t had any problems so I’m not worried about it. Also have asked multiple Subaru experts and they said not to worry either.

I have 2005 sti with pretty fresh rebuild and sounds exactly the same. Very annoying i dont like it at all. I can hear it from inside the car pretty good at lower rpms i just turn up radio and try to forget about it.

This happens to my 07 Subaru Impreza only in the first two gears and after the car warms up it's pretty quiet. But still want to know what it is exactly I herd and read so many things on it I gave up.

Check your valve clearance, might need new buckets. mine got so loud i thought it was rod knock and pulled my engine.

I know this is an old post but I swear I have the same tick (2011 STI ) and I put my ear right to the driver side tire and it sounds like I need a new engine idk whAts going on lol

@@AstroSkool I’m in the same boat. It was kinda on and off between starts in my 2011 STi like one day it would do it and the next it wouldn’t but now it’s consistent and I’m always worried that I’m gonna brick my engine when I hear it

Shit I got a 2012 wrx mine did the same started ticking and got louder pulled over cel was on knock sensor I think bank one or something like that was on the highway so keeps on driving it kept getting louder threw it in n and it shut off I was rolling down a hill and tried to start it while I was coasting down never turned over after that the mains went:(

extremejoms101 That is the sound of carbon deposits on the intake valves in cylinders #3 & #4 due to an unequal length exhaust manifold and oil blow-by deposits from lack of a quality air oil separator. Use CRC Intake Valve Cleaner before it gets worse next time. I know I'm 4 years late but maby someone elce will see it in time :)
