Sticking To The Script, Waiting to Click: Everton vs Arsenal Pre-Match Tactical Analysis and Debate

When will Arsenal finally click? Is it inevitable? Or will we have to wait longer?
In today's video I discuss Arsenal's want of confidence as the only reason for their slightly hit and miss start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, using it as context for a pre-match tactical analysis of Mikel Arteta's side and their trip to Goodison Park to face Sean Dyche's Everton this Sunday (gameweek 5 or GW5 of the campaign).
How will Arsenal look to take advantage of their overload in the build up and last line of play against Everton? William Saliba and Gabriel Magahlaes will have a 2 v 1 against new signing Beto, with Arteta's men also having a 5 v 4 in the last line of play. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and co, will be looking to see the gunners through to a routine win.
Why do they need pockets players for their weekend trip? Such as Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus.
Why may this be the game Kai Havertz gets off the mark in an Arsenal shirt? Or should Fabio Vieira or Leandro Trossard start ahead of the German.
And how will Dyche's men look to disrupt Arteta's reds? A man-man press from goal kicks? Collapsing into the pockets in their mid-block? All will be revealed. Will it be Dwight McNiel or James Garner on the right hand side of midfield, who will play in front of Jordan Pickford in goal?

This is actually one of the games we actually need havertz as we need more attackers playing as further as possible to help the striker but in other games I like vieira to start in that position

Given the fixtures coming up, this is the one time where I can see us rotating this game or next. Having had a handful of players home working during the international break towards either Everton or PSV, I could see a complete rotation here. Especially given Jorginho’s successful game against Everton last season. Might be a perfect opportunity to let Kiwior or ESR out as well for a few minutes. Like 30 at the end with 60 at PSV. Give Rice a little break since he played both for England.

@@harveygration I'm so torn. Especially since the Arsenal page was showing off Kiwior and a few others this week in training. It's like... "are you hinting to me or not?" I wouldn't be surprised by much, but I think the team sheet tomorrow tells us a lot about Champions League team. I wouldn't be surprised to see more rotation in substitutions for that purpose too. I'm hoping we see ESR for Odegaard.

In terms of knowledge, my dad for sure, and having to analyse other sports. Havertz may to start again for his dueling capacity. Lol wonder how that's going to go down with the fanbase. But hopefully jesus dropping and zincheko controlling from behind will give him more space to make runs. I also wonder if Arteta will ever try Havertz at RCM, he just looks far more comfortable receiving from the right. I really hope he can score to quiet the crowd a little bit because no one will care if you say "Havertz is good at blocking space and duels".

Agreed body angles are much more conducive for him at RCM. But because we haven’t seen Odegaard being trialled at LCM so far I can’t see that happening yet. As for duelling capacity, it’s what gives us a much better chance at Goodison this year. 6ft plus monsters everywhere. Platform. If we add technical security and no nerves on top of that we should be alright. But as always Dyche creates a lot of ifs and buts

Abcolutely worried about this game, I feel like unless someone in our front three turns it on we're looking at a 0-0, or worse 1-0 with some Everton lad heading it in in the 83rd minute

@@harveygration having watched a lot of Dyche talking about his style of football, he seems vulnerable to repeated switches, but without Xhaka, our left isn't super well configured for this, I would almost switch around Oodegard and Havertz, have Havertz drifting left instead of right and Saka who the team seems to trust more and will have Benny to back him to receive the switches. If we win this game watch it be because Rice picks out Saka with a deep switch after receiving a back pass from Zinny.

I think the difference this year is how physically complete we are. Have the capacity to win duels early, and provide the platform to make the most of our inherent advantages. Other than that it’s about connections on pitch. Start well after the international break and we should be ok. If not, Everton have it within them to make it a chaotic encounter
