Thanks Lou. Really appreciate that the main tone of your assessments is always like "the taste", "reliability", "fruitfulness" an so on, rather than how rare, how expensive etc. That's the real love and understanding that builds a relationship with figs. That's what from the distant past the wise people were doing, too.

Thank you very much! I appreciate that you understand that important part of my purpose on my educational channel. One point should be heavily considered by all Figsters (fig enthusiasts) and can best be expressed in a question! Why are some of these so called rare figs so rare in the first place? Why??? Are the Italian, Greek, Spanish, French, and other general Mediterranean country gardeners that incompetent and stupid??? If those rare varieties were so worthwhile, successful, fruitful, practical, reliable, and with such a great deal of desirable characteristics, wouldn't they be extraordinarily plentiful in every fig collection, every garden, in every neighborhood, every fig lovers yard, and commonly for sale at every well established nursery, instead of being so rare and expensive??? THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE! This is a no brainer fig fact of life! The fig lovers of all of the successful fig countries of the world would have spread these (RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE) rare fig varieties around by the hundreds of thousands (even millions) everywhere, if they were so superior! If they had so many good qualities, were so abundantly fruitful, practical, and desirable, wouldn't they be common and readily obtainable throughout the fig community??? Wake up people, your being ripped off in the vast majority of these sales!!! The old timers, the real fig experts, the tens of thousands of successful fig enthusiasts, living in the most productive fig countries of the world, would all be growing these expensive (rare) fig varieties in their back yards, in pots, on roof tops, in the commercial fig fields, on farms, and everywhere imaginable! THEY WOULDN'T BE RARE ANYMORE!!!!!!! Think about it! THEY WOULDN'T BE RARE!!!! Lou Monti

@@loumonti10 Couldn't agree more! That what I always stress out as my opinion - one who wants to care for a tree(s) and to enjoy their fruits, has a choice of many established and easily accessible varieties! Granted, there're people who will always want to try something new, unordinary, exotic. That is normal, those people will sort out themselves, as they grow and observe their trees. I cannot imagine one's continuous satisfaction with a "rare" fig, that produces couple of fruits and that even not every time. At the end - the figs are meant for eating them, and as such the criteria for their selection are different than for the diamonds for example.

Alright Lou, I'm convinced. Are you going to be selling any cuttings of the LSU Tiger this year?
@AyZeD2 жыл бұрын
I can't wait till my trees start fruiting, I planted one last year and one just recently, I'm keen to see how the new one does once spring and summer get here too, the first one grew ALOT over summer. I just hope the birds and the possums aren't too much of a problem, because I don't live at my place where I planted them, so there's not a real lot I can do about them.

I bought a fig from Walmart that claimed it was brown turkey but man do the figs look identical to those. I think they gave me the wrong ones. I wouldn’t complain if I had not bought a Celeste fig from stark bro’s recently after. I think I now have planted two Celeste

Hello sir I've taken your advice about sticking to the varieties that do well in my zone and noticed better harvest because of it. Thank you for your support. GOD BLESS YOU

Your video is one of the most informative ones I've seen. I say you should learn from other people's mistakes, because by the time you are done learning from your own mistakes, you have run out of time to put that knowledge into practice. Your fig trees are stunning Lou, I was wondering the ratio of top soil, potting mix and compost you use for your container figs. Ive watched your previous videos on this subject but I can’t seem to find the proportions🙈 Thank you So much and keep up the hard work!!! :-)))
@loumonti103 жыл бұрын
Hi, Spencer! Well, I cover that subject rather extensively in my video....Why Are my Fig Trees so Early, Productive, and Tasty. However, your kinda right, it seems like I'm a little like that old Italian cook that appears never to really measure anything that they throw into the pot! hahaha! The real reason though that I don't have an absolute ratio method, is because, depending on the size, age and variety of the tree, the time of the year, whether the tree will be grown in a greenhouse or not, or if I'm going to use my Ground Bag method, etc, I may vary the exact proportions of my soil mixes!!! You should be able to get a good general idea from my vidios. However, keep in mind that my soil mixes are usually much heavier than your tipical potting mixes. I explain why in my videos. I will not tolerate mediocrity in my fig collection! To be completely truthful, it's quite shocking to me to see some of the flimsy, weak, late, poorly fruited specimens of fig trees being unabashedly exhibited by some of the (so called) fig experts on You Tube and on the fig forums! I'm hoping to teach my viewers to sometimes be more critical of the things they see and hear on Social Media, and to understand the motive when it applies. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

I only have Chicago Hardy, bought them bareroot in tiny boxes at lowes for $9 but now on year two I have multiplied the plant into 10 different pots, I have only single tree form baring tiny little dime the sized figs, I hope to have enough time but can I bring this tree into the house to ripen the harvest in the cold months?, Also a garden KZbinr but Zone 6b. Thanks!
@loumonti103 жыл бұрын
Hi, Russell! It certainly is possible to ripen container grown figs in your zone. The key is to give them a very early start. There are demonstrations that you can view on KZbin. Good luck! Lou Monti

@@loumonti10 I heard on multiple videos of fig aficionados that Peter's honey is the same as kadota, right?
@loumonti103 жыл бұрын
No, not right! Peter's Honey is absolutely not Kadota! There is absolutely no doubt about it! One of the reasons that I began to post videos to KZbin was because of the enormous amount of misinformation circulating out there and to suggest to my viewers that they might find it quite helpful not to always listen to some of these (so called) Fig Aficionados!!!
