Good Sunday Morning, Everyone! I am so happy that you're here! This a long story about a beautiful Stihl 036 that was placed in a time capsule over 20 years ago and has been picked up by the next generation. Can we give it life again? I hope so! Thank you for taking some time out of your Sunday to spend with me at the work bench. Please like this video, it really helps out the channel. Tell me in the comments - do you own a Stihl 036, or have you ever used one? Do you work on saws yourself? Do you prefer older saws, or newer modern saws? I love reading all of your comments! Chat soon! Erica

024 super, 025 and 026. One I got out of a dumpster. Oiler on the 024 super not putting out allot od oil nearly enough it seams. Took the feed tube out of the tank three times and it's clear. Vent clear with an air gun. Tried a new used orig pump and a plastic 026 65mm stroke pump. Ugh. Still got low flow what the heck.
@woe2thet1m1d64 күн бұрын
Try replacing the vent. If though it is clear it can offer enough restriction to prevent the oil pump from drawing from the tank.

I was once given an old Husqvarna 162 SE that had sat with fuel for so long that the fuel hose had actually melted and was a puddle in the bottom of the tank with an old fuel filter stuck in the puddle. I gave it a rebuild( new hoses, seals, carb rebuild) and still have it and even after all this time it still smells like turpentine from that old gas when I start it up. It's just a shop decoration, but I still start it a few times a year. My favorite cleaner to spray on is "Purple Power", that stuff usually takes all the grease up quickly!

Watched the whole video. You make it look so easy to work on them. Found out last Thursday my MS361 has more problems than it is worth to fix. Both crank seals are leaking, a vacuum line behind the carburetor needs replaced, the fuel tank is leaking, that’s part of the handle. Between parts and labor, he said it better to put that money into a new saw. And he checked, and all the parts are out of stock. And still haven’t got the new carburetor yet. So I went back in Friday night and purchased a new MS311 to replace it. Came with a 25” bar, but I purchased an 18” bar so I could use brand new chains I was using with the MS361. So now I have a 2 month old MS182 and a brand new MS311, so I should be good to go for a while now. I hope, lol.

Saws get greasy from the air leak. Thanks Erica. Now to go shovel the walks agan.

Hi! You made a remark about ”golden” screws. I didn’t really understand what u meant. Anyhow; Brass screws don’t catch corrosion easily. I worked with at a company in the late 90-es that sold screws for Ericsson mobile phones. Even brass screws were not good enough, so we sold gold plated screws for their mobile phones. Keep up your good work! Viveca
@mikefrerichs88603 күн бұрын
I don't believe those were brass. They appeared to be yellow zinc coated. Yellow zinc (zinc chromate) is a very common corrosion inhibitor - 2 - 3 times better than plain, silver-colored zinc.

Hi Erica, on your recommendation I managed to get a Depstech DS520 borescope, new on EBay at bargain price and I must say I’m absolutely delighted with it, I wanted to check the bore on my FS55C as on compression test it was a low 90psi but I was amazed at how clear and sharp the imaging was when I inserted scope through spark plug hole, the bore was clear and extremely polished showing no sign of scoring or wear, so I’ve concluded my compress tester reads low. But I am impressed with the clarity of the Depstech DS520 Borescope.😊😊😊😊

Well now this was an interesting video and a job well done on that 036. I bought a 036 brand new in 1994 and my saw is now 30 years old. I use it a lot all of the time and try to take very good care of it. My carburetor has never been rebuilt and I still have the original fuel line and fuel filter. Probably should change the fuel filter even though my tank is very clean and filter looks excellent. I don't know how long this saw well run but I have worked it pretty hard since 19 94. Yes, I will continue to do so until it quits me.

Thank you for posting this excellent video. I'm really glad you are trying to help your hands. I still think using gloves that are gas resistant is a great idea. Thank you for all the work you did on this chainsaw to bring it back to life. I was concerned when you showed the inside of the cylinder and the exterior surface of the piston. You did a fantastic job of repairing this saw. You are so meticulous. I had bet on the clutch side crankcase seal being bad. I'm glad you replaced both crankcase seals, it makes a lot of sense to do that. Now the owner can enjoy the use of very powerful saw thanks to you. You know, I was kind of wondering if the tubing to your pressure/vacuum testing device needs a hose clamp at each end? I guess not since you do not clamp it? As to the tool that you showed us, I am not sure which saw it came with, of course. I remember when my stepfather came home with a brand new Homelite saw it did come with one or two tools. Mostly for getting the chain off or adjusting it, I think. It was a long time ago, a very long time ago. I want to mention that I'm interested in the work you can do on the 75 year old two-person saw. It looks gigantic.
@bigmoustacheal32954 күн бұрын
Again, it's a top-notch video. Your ability to show us clear and focused shots is amazing! I serviced a 025 with the exact same problems. I noticed the sticker on your saw said 1995. Great job. I'll take it!. I have a thing for the 36's. Good power to wieght ratio. I used a small impact to take apart a 360 last year and when I got to the flywheel the threaded end of the crank shaft broke off with the nut. I just about cried. That was the first and last time with the impact. It was saving time for sure but now I don't know if I'll ever use one again on a saw.
