the 090G is a 105cc saw, basically the same as an 070 but in addition it has the gearing system to improve its torque to be close to the actual 137cc (not 120cc) of the 090. so less fuel consumption for the same amount of torque.

@@em4703 torque is never irrelevant for a saw, doesn’t matter if you have a 20 or 80inch bar on it. If you lean on it to push it to the max, torque is what it keeps going. And you can push an 090g much harder than the 070 while they have the came cc.

You should try the McCullough 125 as they were made for higher rpms the 090 is a torque monster and are good for felling big trees but are slower and not really suitable for the smaller trees of today. The 090 makes a good milling saw as it has a manual oiler and can run an 8 foot bar :)

The 090 makes a good miller if the cuts are wide. I haven’t tried a McCullough 125, maybe it would be a little faster. Or I know there are several versions of the O90 and some of them don’t have the gear reduction which might actually be helpful here.

There's nothing a McCullough 125sp has over a stihl 880 or 881, not in weight, and not in power. Its a great saw for its time but it's loved because of nostalgia, not because it's something better.

I have a Stihl 076. It has the same horsepower as the Stihl 661 but holds more fuel and apparently has a lot more torque? How does torque affect the saw? It it just how it's able to pull through a very large log without the chain stalling? Or is that horsepower. I feel like I know but then I could be entirely wrong. I know the 090 has 0.1 hp less thant the 881 but has waay more torque. Does that mean it can cut much larger logs?

@@MountainVoiceInc had a few issues with the 3120s but they cut a bit faster than the 088, that Stihl is a tractor tho. @@MountainVoiceInc yup,the aircrane would lift up to 25 thousand pounds but sometimes the logs were too much even though they were at a minimum bucking length already, sometimes 13’6” but still weighing over 30 grand. The smaller helicopters like a vertol or Kamov would lift 10-14 thousand but they were usually in smaller wood cutblocks anyway but there would be the occasional ripper on the hill. I noticed all the wood chips you got in your boots when you emptied them out at 13:25. I was wondering why you had been wearing your chainsaw pants inside your boots as that allows wood chips to get down into your boots 😀. I noticed when you put them back on you put your pants over top which is how I wear mine to prevent stuff from getting down into them.👍. I'd recommend always wearing your pants over top of your chainsaw boots.

090g has double the torque and half the rpm vs 070 due to its gear reduction. While it's not a really fair fight, when bar lengths go more 500i will not even come close

Ya if they had the same bar on the 090 would win if the bar was long and had lots of teeth, but the 500i would win if the bar was short and had few teeth. @MountainVoiceInc

Good question. Well I’m sure other people have covered the 500is cross cut already, and I have logs to rip in half anyway. The 090 isn’t really compatible with a stock bar, so there is no fair comparison there. I just set each one to play off their advantage’s. The 090 is slow but high torque so lots of teeth is better. The 500i is fast so narrow bar and less teeth is better.
