Thank you! Awesome to hear that I can expect it to last for so long! I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Stihl equipment and their longevity so far.

The black piece is for string trimming thats what the string cutter fits on it. You won’t be able to go as low with your blade with the black piece on.

I’m going to have to go back and look now, I don’t even recall what it was lol. I do have the string head back on now though with the new guard.

Fun video. Didn’t know they sold head grease, that’s a really neat maintenance. Loved the clip of the kiddos at the end.

Damn!! That's bad ass!! Cut some brush, and cut some wood to build a chair, and Rest!!!! BTW I would of loved 2 see that run even for a few seconds. 😃

I had fully intended to get some B-roll of me using it to clear some brush, but if I remember correctly it got dark before I was able to and I didn’t get a chance to get back at it for a few days. It certainly did the job though!

I give mine brush cutter head a spray with anti grass fouling (same stuff to use in lawn tractor ejection funnel... Helps stops snagging and of course easier to clean... Be VERY careful to get the blade centered on the hole before screwing it down.. If it is even slightly off centre you'll experience massive vibration... Ask me how I know 😂

Man why you didn't show how it works, does smal fs55 have enough power to run saw blade?
@WIBeek4 жыл бұрын
I don't think they recommend the wood blade because the size of your power head is pretty small. I have the 91R and I wish it was a 131.
@HoosierHomesteaders4 жыл бұрын
Seems like it does alright so long as I'm careful with it, but I can tell it would potentially roast the clutch due to lack of engagement power if you try to cut something too large.

Hi where did you buy the cup
@HoosierHomesteaders3 жыл бұрын
The spacer cup that holds the blade? If that’s what you’re asking it came in the shroud kit I got from the local dealer.

How did it preform? I have a fs56 and I am about to try a three blade brushknife on it but like yours it is not recommended by the manufacturer.
@HoosierHomesteaders4 жыл бұрын
It handles pretty well for a blade that isn't recommended. It can jump and slip the clutch if it binds up though, so I avoid anything besides the smaller saplings to prevent damage. As far as the three blade goes, one of my subordinates at work had a bad experience with one. He said it was great for weeds and grass, but after a few hits against something more solid it ended up breaking the long connection piece inside the shaft, requiring an extensive teardown and pricey part to repair. I should think it would be fine so long as you're careful with it, just be wary of those sudden shocks that could lead to damage on trimmers like ours that aren't *actually* rated for these blades.

Cheers, I will try it out and report back during the week.

I tried the brushknife on my fs56 today and it worked a treat, a little vibration on it but nothing that would concern me too much. I took extra care not to clip any rocks or anything too big that might damage the blade or the flex shaft. The engine was well capable of spinning the blade even in thick brush and never bogged. Definitely worth a try for anyone that has this model.
@HoosierHomesteaders4 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear! The flex shaft was the per name that slipped my mind lol. I may have to try the brush knife out myself, looks as though it would be easier to re-sharpen than the blade I’ve got.
@patrickcampbell73074 жыл бұрын
I think keeping the blade sharp is also key to preventing damage to the machine. If the blade is razor sharp it is going to cut straight through rough brush whereas a dull blade is more likely to bounce off and cause damage.

Where did you buy the guard cup?
@HoosierHomesteaders4 жыл бұрын
Picked up the cup at my local Stihl dealer. I don't recall the part number off hand, but it's a part they typically keep stocked, it's the same part for many of the trimmers.

This trimmer is too week for this blade(flexible driveshaft). I know that coz i have same1 only with bike handle. You may consider buying stronger (fs235,240 etc)
@HoosierHomesteaders3 жыл бұрын
I've thought about it, but really only needed the blade for some smaller areas. Changed back to the string head after those areas were cleared. You can tell it really isn't meant to use the blade just by how it feels when running it.
