Stihl HLA 66 Stopped Working Try These 3 Things

If your Stihl HLA 66 hedge trimmer has stopped working, don't despair! In this video, we will show you three easy fixes that you can try to get your trimmer back up and running.
Fix 1: Check the battery
The first thing you should check is the battery. Make sure that it is fully charged and that the contacts are clean. If the battery is not the problem, move on to Fix 2.
Fix 2: Unstick the blades
Another common problem with the Stihl HLA 66 is that the blades can stick together. This is usually caused by dirt or debris getting in between the blades. To unstick the blades and gearbox you will need to pry the blades apart. Once the blades are unstuck, oil and regrease and try starting your trimmer again.
Fix 3: Clean the safety switch
If the first two fixes don't work, the problem may be with the safety switch. To clean the safety switch, you will need to remove the screws that hold it in place. Once the switch is removed, you can use a brush to clean off any dirt or debris that may be on it. Once the switch is clean, you can put it back in place and try starting your trimmer again.

Sonny, that switch shown in your hedge trimmer is a limit switch. To check to see if the limit switch is the issue is to use a multimeter set in ohms for continuity. If the multimeter makes a continuous pitch sound then the fault lies with the switch. I tested my limit switch in my Makita brush cutter which wasn't allowing current through. I since replaced the limit switch i bought on Ebay.

I have noticed over time the gearbox can start to make a increaseingly loud clacking noises which I believe comes from the main arm in the gearbox regreasing can help.

1. Never going to let my blades get that manky again - wasn't the issue 2. Fuly charged both batteries and blew out dirt from the connections - wasn't the issue 3. Absolutely terrifyingly opened up the unit, checked the safety and hey presto.... Lessons learnt: 1. Oil blades, clean - daily 2. Check grease (it was dry as) every month 3. Carry a toolset with me religiously on jobs
