NEW STIHL HLA 86 REVIEW.
NOTE - THE UNIT WEIGHS 4.8KG - NOT 1.8 AS I SAY IN THE VIDEO 🤦‍♂️
After a summer of testing, here is my review of the new Stihl HLA 86 telescopic Hedge trimmer.
www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Product...
The STIHL HLA 86 professional cordless hedge trimmer from the STIHL AP system is ideal for the efficient maintenance of tall hedges, shrubs and ground cover. The robust EC motor with infinitely variable speed delivers consistently high performance. The cutter bar can be adjusted by 115° for top, bottom or side cuts without tools. The cutter blade, ground on both sides, allows for an attractive, clean cut. The tool-free adjustable square telescopic shaft impresses with its high level of guide rigidity. The 260 - 330 cm long hedge trimmer has a very long reach and can be folded up to 180 cm for easier transport.

The product arrived undamaged and in a great looking box all parts of the kit were present kzbin.infoUgkx010hhy8hzepHnne4VtzOtUictDZeYMTF and I can't wait to use it. I'm most impressed by the fact that it's a five piece kit, of great monetary value in that you can get this all for such a price. With this my former grip strength will come back and then some. I'm already starting notice a bit of a difference after using it for a bit now, and the stress ball and doughnut shaped grip designed to be carried in the pocket have helped in reducing my stress levels as of late. Would definitely recommend!

However it dos save me time going up and down ladders moving ladders< time is money ! .Also the batts and charger cost a lot I have a AP 200 and a AP 300 Batt ,Must say they do last a long time , So far enjoying it alot more than my petrol Stihl Hedge Trimmer for light to Medium work. @@richardrhodes5323 sorry for the delay ,, well im a full time self employed gardener ,and i don't find it extra light ,also it depends on the battery you use as the 300Ap battery is quit heavy , However it saves me getting my steps out the van to reach the tall skinny hedges ,i suggest look at the spec for the weight of the trimmer and add wot ever size battery you will use to the total weight then you will get the total weight you will be handling. And yes the best bit is low vibration,no petrol, or mixing petrol,and low noise ,also low maintenance . hope this helps a bit . kind regards Richard

Αnother one brilliant review,thanks again. I see a light lifting in comparison HLA 85 the basic machine motor and knife system is the same,possitive is the new telescopic shaft is not round like a square and so when extended the shaft do not goes left-right like model HLA 85.Lock new system i do not like,i prefer the old HLA 85 with one move lock-unlock. HLA 86 is 400 gr more heavy from HLA 85 The interesting will is the new model Stihl HLA 135 long-reach cordless hedge trimmer AP battery,it will is a new machine with transmission shaft like petrol model,motor and battery behind side,and only the knifes on front side. PS: Τhe plants behind is Taxus baccata ?

Nice presentation. I've owned a couple of battery hedge cutters (Milwaukee and McCulloch) they were not hugely expensive and performed well..., But the cutting edge was soon lost. I was about to purchase a Makita long reach cutter, then watched a review, and the guy was not impressed with the deterioration of the edge, and to me it would appear the Achilles heel of many of these machines is the need to re-sharpen or replace the blades after a relatively short time. In your opinion, do you think the Stihl's blades will perform better?

Another excellent video. However, my hedges are quite tall, 4 meters with a flat top and width of about 1 1/2 meters where I must stand on a platform a couple of meters off the ground. Could you compose a video demonstrating arm-and-shoulder sparing techniques of using an HLA 86 at full extension to cut a flat surface on an elevated platform or ladder? I'm sure there are others who could benefit greatly. Thanks!

Great idea for a video 👍 One option you could try - is the RTD harness? That would help with the weight. www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/Hedge-trimmers-and-long-reach-hedge-trimmers/Accessories-for-hedge-trimmers/21696-1556/RTS-Harness.aspx

@@TheFullyChargedGardener I bought that harness for that very reason.....extended horizontal trimming. It didn't work at all with a petrol engined machine, ended up being harder work than without the harness. The pivot point where the harness attaches to the trimmer meant that it was ridiculously blade heavy and I ended up wasting all my effort trying to push the engine down to level the blades. Can't see that it would be any different using it with a battery trimmer for the same application. From experience I would leave that harness on the shelf.....100% dead battery. Didn't even get on with it for vertical trimming either tbh 👍

Wow, I was going to ask the same question - our garden has 12 Boxhead Hornbeam trees 4m high and 2m square heads/. I have just ordered this today with the AP200 battery. I am hopping the battery is sufficient to do one side, charge, then do the other. Also that the reach is sufficient do do a lot from the ground and only ladder for the very tops. If you wanted to do a video of cutting these, you’re more then welcome to come . I’ll even be extra generous and ensure you have good growth to cut 🤣

I'm wondering why Stihl has not designed the motor close to the battery: in that way the tool would be more balanced. what do you think about it??
@TheFullyChargedGardener
@TheFullyChargedGardener 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Having the motor at the battery end means you need a shaft and gear head - which ultimately adds weight to the unit. This configuration is lightweight. Stihl are bringing out units with the motor at the battery end this year - which will expand the range, giving customers more choice to meet their particular preferences. 😀 Thank you for watching 👍

Call me neanderthal but..i just bought a stihl hl 94ce which is petrol 2 stroke. Only thing i like about your model is its extendable. In a way i wish id av bought the 100cm less ....you dint do any cutting with it urs in ur vid so ..the vid had little to nothing to learn from just a load of jargon about thanking the blokes who lent it to you. Batterys nah dont fancy that..want to get a load of work done..not faffa around charging batterys ..what u gotta do carry a rucksack full of batterys with you.after a while the batterys wont take charge anyway and youl av to fork out for a load more ..only thing interest ne about that machine is how long can you cut with one battery ..how much is a second battery ..how long do they take to charge lifespan of battery ..and how much is another charger wen that fecks up. None of which you discuss.. poor vid mate roll ur sleeves up and get stuck in ..3 hrs hedgecutting in 30 degree heat ..i wanna see sweat pissing off tour forehead like a tap ..then youl know what its like to be a gardener that needs to get shit done cus hes consistently got a wks worth of work ahead of him all summer long. Tanaka are the best standard hedgecutters by a longshot ..stihl make the best longreaches..honda make the best selfdrives and strimmers,stiga make the best rideons.

I'm an owner of one of these and say that the safety switch mechanism is a nuisance on this unit. It's meant to be a professional unit and when I'm in the flow, I don't want to be faffing around clicking in a safety switch and ruining my mojo. To cement their professional target market, STIHL needs to look at removing these childish and unprofessional mechanisms. I'd do so by removing the white switch in front of the trigger downwards while preserving the clearance from the bottom of the unit to limit obstruction under operation, extending the housing in front of the trigger and curving the plasting towards the hand, a bit like a hand guard design on a sword, to allow the hedge trimmer to gently rest on the outside part of the hand, and providing slightly more stability.
@TheFullyChargedGardener
@TheFullyChargedGardener 11 ай бұрын
Manufacturers of battery were forced to add extra safety switches to battery machines. I do believe that these laws (regulations) have now been relaxed in some countries, so we may see Tham disappear with time
