The reason there’s some jankiness in the outside area at the end is because that scene with the robot dragging you back into Aperture was added in later, as they were building hype for Portal 2. Before the camera stayed motionless and would fade to black, but since it moves around in the added scene, you unfortunately get to see the edges of the geometry and textures.

it is the combine, aperture seems to have never been invaded or taken over by the combine, but i do believe they wanted to get a hold of the portal technology as they never had portals themselves. Portal 2 and Half-Life Episode 1 and 2 go into this a bit more but you are correct.

It's unlikely that Aperture was left untouched by the Combine, as throughout Half-Life 2 you can see some of the Combine soldiers using those energy ball projectiles, meaning at some point they did discover Apeture and took whatever technology they could. As for the portals, it's likely the Combine never knew the existance of the portal gun in Aperture, otherwise they would've used that as well. Keep in mind (as far as I know) the portal technology between Black Mesa and Aperture is very different. Aperture's portal technology allowed for the user to teleport between areas that could support a portal on it, while Black Mesa's portal technology only took them to Zen and probably a few other worlds/realms.

I dont really think its the combine anymore, because Portal 2 is a lot further away in years compaired to Portal, which was set a few years after the neurotoxin killed most of the employees, which in itself was a few years before Half Life 1. I may be wrong, because I dont know Portal's lore very well, but from what I can tell, I would say that the deadly neurotoxin incident was either during HL1 or between HL1 and the Seven Hour War. Portal was probably a few years after said incident and before the Seven Hour War, since GlaDOS doesnt mention what is going on out there. And Portal 2 is set much, much after everything that happens in the Half Life series, because of that line in the beggining of the game "9999999...", this doesnt necessarily need to mean its milenias away, but judging by the state of the facility, this should be at least a few decades after. Portal 2's writer probably didnt think too much into this and yes, he most definitly was talking about the Combine invasion, but it doesnt make all that much sence, seing that in the ending of HL2 ep2, the Combine were struck pretty hard. If I had to guess, Valve was still working on HL2 ep3 during Portal 2's development and was going to release it a bit after the game, in which they would probably end the world of Half Life and Portal in a diar state (i dont remember what epistle 3 ended on)

For anyone wanting to know the story behind the mysterious man that's writing all over the walls, their is a comic the Valve released in 2011 called "Portal 2: Lab Rat". The comic takes place with the man watching chell go through the chambers and in the end watching her be dragged away...and then some. The man wasn't a test subject but instead one of scientists working on the development of GLaDOS. I don't want to say more for spoilers sake, so go read it yourself, its only 27 pages long. Also do not worry, the comic does not have any spoilers to the Portal 2 game.

HL1 and The Orange Box will also play on most laptops and computers, it's an old collection of games now so you don't need anything really powerful to play them

You originally just passed out in the parking lot, but right before they released portal 2, they modded the end to have you get dragged back in. I remember playing it a second time for the hell of it and going THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN BEFORE That's also when they added the extra radios that give you a signal when you move them another space, launching their ARG. When the signals were spectrographed one of them shows a photo of a companion cube on the moon :3

When I played Portal (actually fairly recently in the grand scheme of things, it was definitely an old game when I played it), it never really occurred to me that it was too short. It told a story, explored some interesting mechanics, and was done. It didn't get repetitive or overstay its welcome, which is a breath of fresh air compared to other puzzle games.

It wasn't a ret-con, it's explained in the "lab rat" comic how Doug ratman saved you from a security bot (the thing that was dragging you) and put you in the stasis chamber that you find yourself in the beginning of portal 2

@@RoseOneGaming Honestly wish I had my own laptop or computer to play all the current Valve games so I can keep up with the lore and stuff of both Portal and Half Life, the first taste that I had of Half life is by digging through and finding an unfinished demo of the first Half life game, which can be found in the files of I believe all Valve games in computers. (We had no internet and I had nothing to do, so I just decided to randomly scavenge the files of my family's computer back at home then I randomly came across the Half Life demo application through the files of TF2 and CS GO, don't remember where exactly but it's in there.)

Okay, even though this game was so short, I love the story that went into it. Because, in my mind for all the years I've heard of it... I thought GLaDOS was this evil computer trying to kill you throughout it. But not really. She was designed to test things for this facility. And sure the one room where it says "you were done" and you're going towards a big fire pit can be argued that she was trying to kill you, as well as the fight where she's pouring neurotoxins into the area. But other than that, she was just a snarky sort of narrator for the rooms. If she was wanting to kill you, they could have really played into it by basically it being her controlling the turrets or timings of things. Mess with the programming basically. Either way, amazing game and I'm just sorry I haven't gotten into it until now, but at the same time I'm glad I got to go through the story with your playthrough Jack! Now, back to Portal 2!
