I enjoyed your reflection at the end of the video. Like you had mentioned it's been a while since you played this deck, the meta has evolved around beating Rescaminator and it seemed like you were a little rusty. I have faith that if you had a major tournament and some time to prepare you would be able to grind your way into multiple 5-0's. However, I appreciate and thank you for showing that sometimes the matches don't go your way. This helps players like me, who are new to Legacy and also go on streaks were we just get steamrolled. It's nice to know we are humans just like the content creators we love to watch.

Only deckbuilding choices I’ve been tinkering with is a pick your poison in for a veil of summer and another surgical for the force of despair in the board. Mainboard I have an under city sewers instead of a mystical sanctuary and another witherbloom instead of the spellbomb main.

Brian it's usually very patient and that play I wasn't convinced the second I saw it. I can see the appeal of that play given the situation and I guess we could run numbers to know hoy many times that just makes them non functional, but that's a lot of numbers I'm not willing to make.

I have a quick question about surveil lands. I know you hate when people just say “what about this card?” without providing context or plausible cuts. So this really is more of a question than an “I know better than you” comment. The surveil lands have obviously become staples in every format. But I’m still struggling to understand when to best utilize them. And how many to include. I noticed a few times in this league where a surveil land or two would have been sick. So what is the justification for them not being included here? I have a low to the ground rakdos deck in modern, and I can’t tell if I should be running one, two, or zero… could you explain a little bit of your thought process in regards to inclusion or not? Regardless. Thank you for the excellent content. plur!

Basically you're weighing ETB tapped vs. a deck's likelihood to just pass with a fetch up vs. how bad it is for you if you don't curve out, then you start adding factors like are you using the graveyard, do you have Daze, etc. In a Legacy tournament with a deck like this one there will always be spots where having a Surveil land in the deck would be good. This deck in particular is a control deck that plays on a tempo deck mana base while supporting Wasteland and Daze. It's very important to have 2 mana on turn 2 for Beans/Bowmaster and the cost of that land coming into play tapped isn't worth the upside when it's in your deck where you want to fetch it. As far as your modern deck, just try it. Put 1 in, if it's good consider a second. Take notes how often it was good vs. bad and let the results speak.

I think you hit the nail on the head with “there will always be spots where having a surveil land would be good.” I seem to notice those moments frequently while disregarding all of the times where a surveil land in hand would put me a whole turn behind and likely cost the game. On a serious note as someone also going through a bad beats period and in a game culture that encourages grandstanding and is super results oriented its actually nice to see an excellent player do badly with an excellent deck and just reinforce how much of this game comes down to luck.

You are an amazing content creator but I rarely watch the brews, I would really appreciate more competitive control decks in the near future, for example a Beans week with a different version every day: BUG, Bant with light and heavy red splash, Bant with black splash and 5c would already be a full work week :-) Or like a week with the same deck but every day one card gets added or removed. It's hard to really get how good a deck is with only 5 matches. That's what I love about Briant Cook with his Storm deck where there is always a version and a decklist and statistics about winrates vs the different opponent decks, having someone do this for control would be great for legacy control players.

My model is based entirely on submissions from Patreon. I have some agency in the order they come out, but 100% of the decks you see are from paying customers who want their decks featured on the channel. At any time I'm carrying 5-8 weeks of backlogged decks to release for people. Unless 5 people submit slightly different bean decks at the same time or one person buys 5 leagues, that's unlikely to happen. I also have to consider my whole audience, not just the bean lovers. I know many people would hate seeing the same archetype for a whole week. Bryant does a different thing than me. His core offering is 1 specialty deck that he built a whole platform around. My thing is playing tons of different decks. He's able to share those stats because he has them. I don't spend enough time on any deck to get good stats.

Did you just say that you haven’t lost to goblins with beans, but i’m almost positive Phil beat you with Goblins on camera back when you did the 3 different matches with 3 different tiers of the metagame. (Went back and checked, it was a 2-0 in phil’s favor and neither game was in particularly close). Idk, to me that seems like it can be rough if their threats line up to your answers in a way you aren’t prepared for, and force of despair (while incredibly niche, i’ll admit) seems like a bandaid to try and give some game in that direction.

This is a 3 color control deck trying to support Wasteland and Daze on a tempo deck mana base while also playing basics. Maybe a surveil land is worth it, but saying it should have at least 2 is wild. I think zero is correct given how tight mana margins are already.

@@BoshNRoll in many spot a surveil land was better than anything else. Delver can support 1 and I play 2 in stiflenought (bant and sultai) with very good results on leagues recently. Sometimes I would want even more. The surveil value is insane. I respect your (much more educated than mine) views, but I found them only a positive.

@BoshNRoll do you think that the only reason to play BUG Instead UWGb is the witherblossom command? I mean, with the white we can play stp and leyline binding to replace the black removals (fatal push, the edicts and the cut) that seems better for the beans and they are removals more elastics (exile is Better then destroy) and binding hits everything not only creatures At the same way we can play bowmasters and murktides, the same blue shell but the white adds something Where am I wrong?

@@licanlupo This deck is much better against Wasteland and has a more focused plan. There's plenty to like about 4-5 c versions and they're good too, but we can't ignore one of the foundational pillar cards of Legacy when thinking about adding colors to decks.
