This is why I always have loved scales 23:00, lethal on board with inkmoth.
@nate1004Ай бұрын
Took me a minute to see it but yeah. Exactly 10 infect if you animate inkmoth, tap overseer, tap cauldron on Zabaz and then destroy Zabaz with itself and move the counters to the inkmoth. Cool line. Shame he didn’t get one more turn to do it.
@sephirothrrАй бұрын
@@nate1004 you skipped the important part where you have to use zabaz to kill overseer before you cauldron, since there are no creatures in the yard, at which point you can use overseers ability again with zabaz
@nate1004Ай бұрын
@@sephirothrr I forgot the +1/+1 counter required a creature to be exiled. I also forgot the cauldron fixes mana for creature abilities. Both of which I would have hopefully remembered in the moment when going through the line myself.

I think the first opponent may have had the read that Trop into Stirrings meant some kind of lands deck, in which case FoW would have very few targets.
@DracomandriuthusАй бұрын
Trop into stirrings is a wild play for sure. Why blue. Why stirrings What in the world do be. Very reasonable to force there when you genuinely have zero clue and you have to go off the info you know Which, the most sense, is some flavor of either eldrazi blue, which isn't real, or some flavor of lands, which isn't real, but you gotta pick one of two.

At 47:10 there is a line through you should have tried before conceding. Cast Soul Cauldon. It will probably resolve, as opponent has only one Force of Will/Negation available, and they have already seen Dismember, so it seems more like a bait. However, after it's on board, you cast Walking Ballista X=0, let it go to the graveyard. Activate Soul Cauldron, put two counters on Overseer. Activate Overseer, put two counters on it. Kill Nadu with no more triggers left this turn. You know all the cards in opponent's hand. One topdeck for them and then you'll be sweeping the Nomads or other stuff as well with your four pings a turn.

I had a friend with hardened scales in modern when I first started Magic. One of my favorite decks to pilot, but a playset of Opals was $400+ at the time, so I never got to own it.

Stonecoil Serpent stonewalling Psychic Frog like a boss feels amazing. But you know what feels just as amazing? Giving the Stonecoils the abilities of the frog. Poetic justice indeed!

Rather than going for a blue splash, I want to know if a black splash for entomb would be worth it. It would let you run the deck a little closer to a true combo deck. I think I remember seeing Phil play an Agatha's deck a while back that ran Phyrexian Devourer as a combo target because if you had an entomb + an untapped Agatha's after a creature goes unblocked, you bin the devourer -> eat it with cauldron -> buff your creature -> then use the devourer ability to make your creature a lethal attacker on the spot. It didn't even require too many clicks (like many infinite combo loops tend to do on MTGO).

My brain just wants to fit a Phyrexian Devourer into this decklist. It already has Cauldron and Ballista. And a combo finish in a midrange is always great. But it would need a way to discard or mill?

Prediction overseer is not modern playable let alone legacy playable. Hangerback walker (gives you play vs wrath of skies) and 4 inkmoth should be auto includes and the blue splash is very greedy. As a deck that needs to use most of its mana every turn you cant afford to play reactive cards. The cards you care about beating are null rod, ouphe, and wrath of the skies. 4 natures claims and 4 dismember. sideboard out the ancient stirrings when you bring in sideboard removal.
