This brought back memories of my "firsts" for the holidays. The range of emotions I had in one day, like, I was anxious, scared, angry, uncomfortable, etc.. Fast forward many years now, I just go all out. Christmas and Halloween are by far my favorite. Birthdays are a huge thing as well. I celebrated my first birthday at age 40. It was a Princess party and I wore a tiara and had a Princess birthday cake. I revelled in the moment when my friends sang happy birthday to me. It was the absolute best! 😊

Your Halloween display was amazing! It’s been a few decades and I still struggle with birthday acknowledgements outside my immediate family. Now, Christmas is my favorite holiday. Once we were established, I acquired my own tree. The family room tree is a hodge podge of child and pet related ornaments. My tree is coordinated and has been lovingly curated. The trees start going up before Thanksgiving and stay up through March. It became tradition to see if the live tree would begin growing. There have been many, though the first was accidental.

This Ep was so much fun and right on time. The holidays always seem too short for me so the sooner we begin the celebrations, the longer we get to enjoy it all. So thankful for my freedom, ain’t it grand!!!

I've been out 25 years, married going on 20, only comfortable with holidays maybe 7 years. My wife loves giving gifts and is damn good at it, our daughter loves the tree, and I've always loved the WW2 era christmas songs. Forbidden music was always what irritated me, regardless of innocence. I always wanted a hurse to convert into huge station wagon. I almost bought a '70s Cadillac flower car. I kick myself for not, because I found out much later that they only made like 25 of them.

I do regret selling that hearse. It would’ve made a great wagon. Plus it had a low mileage 5.7 L Chevy small block in it. Reliable as can be. - Jason

It is sad that JW’s are “Told” that a birthday is selfish, and that one should not celebrate themselves! Although the GB is not only celebrated on one day of the year, but everyday. Celebrate all that you desire to celebrate in your life. And most of all, everyday is a celebration leaving the Selfish WT/GB CULT! Thanksgiving and birthday’s are at the top of my list.

Halloween was the first holiday that I was excited to celebrate. I have some memories from early childhood and that was the one I was mad about giving up. Still after 40 years I have not really celebrated Christmas aside from some work parties. I did give my son gifts. I guess I never could say that I was for sure Christian and still can't so it is kind of pointless.

I worked at a place that had many jws working at it. The LOOKS of anger and betrayal those jws gave me when i came dressed as a sailor on halloween 2007! And all my non-jw coworkers loved finally seeing the real me enjoy the moment of being free to do so🎉. Also the demon holiday was the one i wanted to celebrate the most

I think the idea of not celebrating Mother’s Day is that it does have pagan origins according to WT

Agreed. But we've noticed that once we reach the "-ber" months that a lot of our exjw friends start to feel anxious as the holidays get closer so we thought we'd get ahead of the issue. Plus it's never too early to be spooky 🎃

If you're an Exjw and think you don't care about the holidays bc it wasn't part of our culture....I would just say, keep an open mind! Making your own traditions can be really fun. Last year was my first time celebrating anything. My kid and I just happened to stumble upon our city's tree lighting ceremony. It was a massive nighttime event, with the mayor giving a speech, professional singers, and a parade of every marching band from all the schools in our county. Gobs of candy were thrown. All kinds of lights and dancers. It was nothing short of magical!

How can you celebrate Christmas when it doesn’t have anything to do with Jesus do some looking into it and you will find that it is quite pagan

I know I'm enjoying the holidays as a former witness. I went to an Advent service back in December. It was really amazing!! I just went to a church service a couple of weeks ago that had dogs brought to the service. I didn't bring my cats so I just showed the Reverend pictures of my cats. 🦮🐕🦺🐈🐈⬛🐕
