14 mpg? Not much of an increase over the 5.7. Interior is 4th to GM, Ram, and Ford. No auto 4wd. Not a fan of the front-end. But I have to say it's growing on me. And there is toyota reliability.

Their is another con, the way the side mirrors are designed, they create a blind spot. Also the positive, their is a remote start in your key fob, press the lock button twice and then hold the button down.

Just bought a 23 TRD PRO. Yes, turning radius is very annoying. The interior quality could be better for the price. The screen is a bit odd and could have been designed a bit more attractive. Once you shut off the engine the radio turns off right away. It should stay on for 5 minutes or so until you open the door (like so many other manufacturers). For a hybrid, the MPG is terrible. I traded in my 23 F150 for this. I could get around 28 MPG with that one which was also V6 non hybrid. The good thing is that you can put regular gas in this. Tires and wheels should be larger. They look too small for the size of this truck. Thanks for your video.

After waiting for 15 years to do a refresh it’s a huge swing and miss. Basically they just stole ideas from ram, ford and GM. MPG still atrocious. Don’t love the giant iPad that stuck on the dash. If GM can get 20mpg from their 6.2 why couldn’t Toyota? 10 speed, fuel management, auto start start with hybrid assist.

I average 15.5 - 17.2 mpg (mix of highway and town) in my 22 Chevrolet 2500 HD crew cab RWD 6.6 gas engine with 3.73 gears. I can't believe you are getting such poor mpg in that 1/2 ton truck. Putting foot down and noting happen for a few second and then it finally get going after it figer itself out. My old 2006 Toyota 4runner 4.7 V8 does that and it still does it from time to time. It actually does it more now that it's gotten a lot older now. The biggest issue is that mechanic are not able to mimic the issue. I only had one mechanic that ever was able to mimic the issue and he told me that is not normal that my 4runner shouldn't be doing that, and he couldn't figer out the issue of why it did that and told me to bring it to Toyota. But Toyota wasn't able to mimic the issue. Eventually I gave up because is like everytime I take my 4runner to the mechanic shop my 4runner decides to suddenly feel better and then they can't mimic the issue. Is like my 4runner is toying with me.

I bought my TRD Pro in July and initially loved everything about it. But over the last couple of months I have noticed a few of your cons creeping in here and there. I have experienced the wind noise and rattles. I agree with your assessment of the “cheapness” of some of the interior. Especially the plastic cover on the side of the seats (I have a small crack already). One thing that is really bugging me is the hybrid regenerative braking system Mine makes a awful high pitched humming noise when stepping in the brake. I had it checked by Toyota and they said it was normal. It is extremely annoying. I agree with your pros though. But for the cons that I have experienced I am trading in my TRD Pro for a Raptor today. Overall I like my TRDPro but I don’t love it so I decided to get the truck I have always wanted. Sorry Tundra Dude. I still love your content and will continue to tune in. Happy trails.

For example, I'm listening to sat radio with car play on to view google maps and it shows my Spotify when it should show sat radio. I wish there was a good tutorial on how to get the most of your entertainment system - using the commands and what commands are available. Having wireless car play is amazing. Cell charger needs a power-boost. HVAC could be stronger but it still works just fine. "Turns like a cruise ship" < exactly!!! Still getting used to it.

Con for me is the infotainment screen doesn’t have a “home” button. Just wish there was a main Home Screen for when your not using apple car play where you could select multiple things you wanna do without jumping from screen to screen

Mark, yes I have experienced the god awful text read back or lack there of since the radio volume doesn’t mute. Also that pause u are talking about when pulling out happens to be ever so often and it is when I let off the gas but return the foot to it just enough I expect it to go but it is like a 1-2 second if you will more (1) second where I’m like uh oh. I have never had an issue though. Also yes im in same boat with turning radius and almost 3 Pt turns required now in my daily driving. Another thing for me is the tailgate I do not like having the button vs the physical handle to open it. Last two things are I do not like the auto start stop but im in a non hybrid so it is different for me as I don’t have the monitor generator like you to help. Lastly is the epb. I don’t like it at all and wish we could have kept a manual ebrake but also don’t like the fact I can’t open the door at all and back up or drive fed without the epb automatically engaging.

Exterior aesthetics of the new model I've come around on. The elephant in the awkward corner, however, is still the engine for me. From all I've looked into and spoke to the non-hybrid owners, the dang thing gets equal mpg's with the V6 vs the old v8 and even worse when towing. The whole idea was a bump in emissions by going to the v6, but as usual, real world numbers are not reflective of that. Me being me, I'd long optioned Toyota to hybridize the V8 if they wanted progress and give it longer-legged (more gears) transmission to hit better mpg's. I just absolutely stand behind low-stressed V8s for longevity and reliability. Maybe they'll bring it back down the line 🤞 as it's still in production in various guises through the production ranges of other cars. Interesting to hear about the turn radius. That's definitely something I've come to take advantage of with the old truck. It turns around islands like a go kart and significantly tighter that the wife's SUV with 1/3 shorter a wheelbase or any of the sports cars I've owned through the years. The hesitation in my experience is relegated to the software overlords, usually the stop/go system is fighting with traction control behind the drapes (and one instance was a fueling issue that was corrected with tuning software). It's happened to me with other vehicles and was exactly as you described.

I added a rubber liner kit from amazon that went in cupholder and all of the spaces came with 30 pieces. I did not use them all but I like it keep thing from sliding around on the plastic bottoms. I have otter box symmetry and it charges every time no issues with it not charging the liner kit from amazon has a thin piece that goes on the bottom of phone charging area so my phone does not move around that may be why I'm not having issues. My turning radius is not great taking some time to get used to. My friend has a 22 platinum which I have driven I feel his turning radius is better than my pro. Over all I love my TRD PRO.. no major complaints at all.

Yes there were a few times when I had the 22 Tundra that it was a second before acceleration kicked in. The turning radius was not good. The center console was squeaky after a few months. Drivers Door rattles occurred to where I had to turn bass down on JBL. There was wind noice on mine, which was a platinum. Did not like auto start stop it got annoying when I would put it in park and it would shut off and kick right back on. Side moldings started to peel back and became lose to where you could see 3m tape under it. Plastic sleeves became loose on lower fenders and dirt got behind them. Glare from morning sun was blinding . Pros for me: it had an awesome drive and ride. Handling was excellent. JBL was good. Truck looked great and had beautiful paint work. Resale value is fantastic as well.

MPG...what is the axle gear ratio? My 23 F150 SCrew 3.5 EB with 3.31 axle ratio gets 17.5 combined and 24 hwy. Seems that the all aluminum body is measurably beneficial.

2023 platinum hybrid- pros: so fast and quick, way more sleek, tech is amazing, comfy driving, dont have to mod the hell out of it to get rid of the chrome. Cons: MPG is terrible (about the same as my 2021), cant disconnect iphone to watch anything or listen to anything as carplay connects all the time, cant hear siri/carplay with music, wind noise on the drivers side mirror, side steps come out further than my old amp steps on my 21. Still love the truck and wouldnt trade it for anything other than a Ford F150 Tremor

Hi mark one of my con is the back doors have no lighting when you open the doors this is one that they took out the inside lighting in the front isn’t bright enough inside doors have too much plastic on should have more leather over all I love my truck I don’t experience any of the lagging in the gas peddle. What do caught me off guard is if I drive to the supermarket after shifting to park the engine hybrid kick in and the sound of the engine will completely shut off and some times I forget to turn off the beast leave it on and walks out😮😢overall when I look at the beast it always looks hungry

Greetings, I love the review. I will pick up my SR5 with the TRD package Monday and Drive about 18 hours to get back home. Regarding gas mileage, what driving mode do you have set? Often I see reviewers talk about the mileage, but they don’t include the mode, they have set, ie normal sport, etc. Thank you👍🇺🇸

@@TundraDude34 Returned home last night, 1260 miles in total. Mostly 15-17 degrees Fahrenheit during the trip [a little sleet on short part of it]. Just for the heck of it, I shifted between 4Hi, normal sport and eco-modes at various points and varied the speed. Route started MO OK TX NM and home in AZ. Mainly flat until reaching the Mongollon Rim. On the last leg, I start to average 20.7 miles per gallon during descent and remainder flat/level. 18” stock Michelins, TRD add on to SR5 pkg. Having oil change, test and check out and wash done today [to get rid of potential engine break in shavings, adhesives; random torque tests. Nothing expected.] it smelled a bit at a couple of startups, but I attribute that to new engine packing, etc.. keeping this vehicle at least 10 years and doing oil changes at every 5000 miles. A ++ as far as a grade so far. Precise and competent handling on mountain road. 🇺🇸A plus: glad to see it was made in San Antonio by American workers.

Hi Mark. Love the content. My truck was the platinum that you featured back in December. You’re pretty spot on with me on your review. However, I am one of the unlucky ones with wind noise from the door seals. Absolutely a miserable experience. Called the dealer and they will replace with the same seals, which I will have them do at 5000 miles. The powertrain in the truck is very good. In fact, I think the transmission is the smoothest shifting of any of the Ram, Chevy, or Fords that I have owned. However, when I put the truck in reverse for 50 or 60 foot, then shift to drive, I do experience this lag that you refer to. I blame it on electronic shifting. My last two Chevys did the same thing. MPGs are atrocious! I knew it would be bad going in, but it’s worse than I imagined with E rated tires. Averaging about 13.5. So we’re pretty similar. The one con that I never hear anyone mention is the lack of auto 4wd mode. All the other manufacturers offer it and it is very convenient in snow country during everyday driving. I really miss the since of security this gave me. Overall, I like the truck. It’s not a “game changer” that I was looking for, but overall a good truck. Is it enough to keep me buying Toyota trucks ? Time will tell. It hasn’t won me over as quickly as Toyota cars have over the past 20 years.

I've been following your channel for some time and love the contents. On 12/31/22 I walked into the dealership and traded in my 2019 4X4 TRD OR LB Tacoma for a 2023 Mesquite Brown 4X2 hybrid Limited Tundra. Wife was not happy when she found out that Taco was gone but she quickly got over it once she rode in the new Tundra. We both love this truck. So far so good after 1,000 miles no excessive wind noise, rattles or other issues that some have complained about. I drive in Normal mode with a tonneau cover averaging 21 mpg in the city (no road trips yet) I don't have a lead foot but my wife would agree that I'm not a slow driver. I have not noticed the dead pedal issue. The TRD Pro is definitely my favorite and the best trim option but since we do not off-road I couldn't justify spending another $10K. My wishlist would be a Mark Levinson sound system and a 6-foot bed instead of 5.5 (no I didn't want the 6.5 bed option). Keep the awesome contents coming, take care.

I’ve heard hybrid Prius car engines experience shorter engine life because of the constant starting and stopping. I reckon this hybrid engine life may be shorter than non hybrid engine. Of course you have to remember to turn it off each time you drive. When Toyota changes remote start, I may consider a non hybrid Tundra

I did rent tundra limited and drove about 1500 miles before buying and it was fully packed. Transmission- great except for weared lug when taking off. It was not hybrid. Interior - super cheesy. Very very low quality feel. Only great thing was infotainment system itself but location and sound - really? Can't they lower it a bit? Spend extra 200 dollars on speakers? And biggest disappointment was back seat and bed. Bed with cover - little bit bigger than suit case. Back seat - I have no words for it. If you are over 6' tall you basically will not fit in crewmax!!!. And I did manage to get 19mpg on long trip with non hybrid. If that new trd pro gets 15 mpg - WOW. what's the point. Get 21 1794/platinum put trd suspension on it - good to go. 75k??? For what? Extremly disappointed. What's the point of this truck? And it is poor on design to compare to 2007 reveal. I thought design will grow on me - no. So I just bought new gmc at4, 2nd one only paid 67 fully packed. I am sad that toyota really dissapinted. I owned over 10 toyotas.

Absolutely! Dead pedal was probably the hardest thing for me to deal with, when I got my new 2022 Tundra 1794 Hybrid. Tow haul mode seems to take care of it, but then also seems to then hurt the fuel mileage. I’ve learned to deal with it, and normally drive in the normal mode. I’m with you on not paying for remote start! Crazy it doesn’t come standard on a $70k+ truck.

Is now the worst time to buy a truck? Used cars--still priced high and dropping everyday. A used truck for 50k today might be 40k in a year. New car--dealer markups, shortages, and high rates. Maybe the fed will ease up and rates will fall, who knows.
