Something similar happened a few months ago at BOM. An Air India flight was taking off from the runway, and an Indigo flight landed even though the runway was still occupied. If these are the standards, that was a literal Disaster even though it wasn't. If Jerry had been watching, he would have broken that mic.😆

Had that happen at the same place. Our pilot left it quite late - felt like the climb for the go-around was incredibly steep. Thought we’d just do an orbit and come straight back in, but no - we must have had to join the queue again because it was a good 40 minutes before we landed.

I flew to Heathrow yesterday, a 330 touched down just as we'd vacated the runway, like within seconds of us vacating the 330 landed. Whilst impressive it shows also how stupidly busy Heathrow is and how over-capacity it is. Three runways is not enough, let alone two. The sooner we get serious about a proper solution for UK aviation the better!

Just to clarify - you ARE permitted to land while another aircraft is on the runway. ATC can offer you a “land after” clearance if there is (among other criteria) sufficient separation between aircraft. Maybe that wasn’t the case here, or perhaps the crew of the following aircraft declined to accept it.
