Still running tags in Google Tag Manager

With regards to the Google Ads tag not loading fast enough on clicks (happens with other triggers too, by the way): When I encounter this problem, my first reaction is to ask the developer to make the link open in a new tab (if I'm not able to do that myself). It's usually not a big deal to add the target_blank attribute to the HTML. Since this problem doesn't occur with GA4 tags, you can also use an imported GA4 conversion in Google Ads (obviously this is only the second best solution because the attribution is gonna be different).

In my opinion, opening a new tab or window after clicking the button may negatively impact user experience. Additionally, the GA4 conversion likely uses the same trigger. Therefore, GA4 might encounter the same issue as the Google Ads conversion. Just a thought

@@JatiIID In my experience, there has never been an issue with GA4 tags in this context. If the new tab is on the main domain, like a thank-you page, use the pageview trigger on that site. If it's a pdf or an external link, I actually think the user experience is better when it opens in a new tab because the user can go back to the main domain without closing the pdf, external link... and can compare the content of pdf/external site with your site or quickly go back if unsatisfied with the conent of pdf/external link (external link could be social media page f.e.).

@@olealbrecht745 Thanks for the response. I meant the issue is the tag doesn't have enough time to fire properly. If I ever face a situation like that, I might use the persistent data layer method. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Have a good one.

Hey! Thanks for explanation ❤ I've got another situation: in server GTM some tags are "fired in background" which is a bit inconvenient. If a tag is fired successfully I can see the post back url with the status, but if it is fired I background I see no postbacks. What does 'fired in background' mean?

I had this problem with google ads tags. The solution was implementing Consent mode V2 advanced and it started firing correctly.
