Still The Best EV in 2022? Tesla Model 3 Long Range Review

With climbing petrol prices, many drivers are being tempted to switch to an electric vehicle with the Tesla Model 3 being on many peoples' shortlist. In this video I’m going to outline everything I enjoy about this car, as well as some of the things I think could be better.
Moving away from internal combustion engines wasn’t a straightforward choice but given how much the world is changing, and how many benefits and savings there currently are for EV drivers, it definitely felt like the right one.

LFP is only for the RWD/standard range, not long range model. Other than that, great review! :)

Great review. I do want to point out that I am not sure the long range model is being produced with the new LFP chemistry at this time. I am pretty sure that is only being used for the standard range RWD model.

Great review Jorge! Love all the footage and your explanations :) The Tesla is a great car, but definitely has its pros and cons. If people have a long commute and no charger at home, charging can be tough. I live in apartment complex where chargers aren’t always available, so I’ve had some major adjusting to do to ensure the vehicle has enough mileage for what I need to do. But overall I absolutely love mine!

Nice review bud, I think you’ve summed it up nicely in a very professional yet relatable way! We have an Audi Q4 edition one on order with the longer range battery and honestly can’t wait, yes you pay a little more for the car it’s self but the guaranteed saving of fuel and maintenance it was a no brained for us, July can’t come quickly enough!

Nice quality video! But I'm pretty certain the Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are not used on any LR versions.

Quite a few mistakes noted. LFP batteries are only available in the base model model 3. Due to the drop in energy/power, Tesla won’t be putting them in LR and Performance models. Additionally the range increase with LFP is due to the ability to constantly charge to 100% where this is not recommended for the LR and Performance models.

Correction: Lfp batteries are not more efficient, actually the energy density is less compared to a lithium battery. Meaning a lft battery will be heavier than a lithium having same capacity. They can withstand to be charged to 100% all the time and can withstand 3 times as many charge cycles

I have had a model 3 LR for 2 years now and strongly recommend this as an option, best car I have owned. Does it have flaws, yes of course, like every other car, but i still enjoy the drive after 2 years, it never gets old. In fact it was a lease car, so now it has to go back so I will be buying a new M3 to replace it.

It's ridiculous they don't let you buy the vehicle after the lease. I bought my first one got my 2022 LR M3. Luckily when it was still under 50k they jumped the prices twice since then. Love it so far had it since December.

Hey Jorge - im weighing up a model 3 or a Polestar 2. I hear a lot of people saying the wind and road noise is quite a lot in the 3, and that it doesn't ride bumps well. I drive alot of A roads. What are your thoughts?

There is a big difference in the range estimate provided from Tesla and what you’ve tested in your car because you don’t have the Aero Covers on and that decreases the range by 3%, besides that Tesla test their cars in controlled environments.

3% would only be a 10 mile difference from the 340 projected range - I think the variance comes from speed/incline/feature control. Will be testing this in future.

We rented Tesla cars on our last two trips to arizona. 1st time with the white interior and the 2nd time with the black. I can tell you 1st hand that the black seats were SOO HOT we had to put towels on them to keep from burning our legs

I've had the model y lr for about 2 weeks now. I had a 21 plate model 3 previously. They are identical interior bit the the model 3 feels better to drive and more punchy. I have a family of 4 and in all fairness I would stick to a model 3

I also had the model Y. It was a great car, but when I had the opportunity to drive a model three, I traded my Y in. I took delivery of my model three last week, red with white interior, and I could not be happier. So much fun to drive!

Have you checked the price recently, I think you will find that your spec car is now £56,090 I too took delivery of mine on November last year, it was then £6500 cheaper.... looks like we had a bargain!!

Good one, screen worries me as being a major distraction from looking ahead, is there not a factory heads up display option? Info would be limited but could be cycled via thumb control on steering wheel. I just assumed something so advanced would have this as standard, next gen maybe.

Does anybody have a Tesla that is out of warranty? Any issues to be aware of at that point such as battery failure/repair? Tesla ownership sounds great when the warranty is in effect. I’m concerned about after the warranty expires. Thanks.

The lack of adaptive suspension makes the ride crash and harsh on uneven (British) roads. In my 3 LR Dual Motor, I can drive from Saintes Supercharger (France) to home 325kms/200miles and arrive home with about 15%. That’s at motorway speeds 90-130km/h. This is about the same range as a Renault Zoe maxes out. Teslas 3s are not the best EVs for many reasons.

I carried out a test drive on a Tesla and wasn’t such a comfortable ride as you make out. I was disappointed with this. However being good tech and long range, the build quality wasn’t the best. The interior lining appears cheap material. I don’t know why Tesla continue to refuse a heads up screen which in my view would really compensate for the screen being in the centre of the car. I went for a Mercedes EQA in the end, superb ride, traditional layout and great voice activation for nearly everything. Obvious downside was range and acceleration, but even so was surprised with the Mercs acceleration compared to a diesel counterpart. Hatchback would also be an advantage, so I’ll lookout for your review of the Tesla Y.

If a long winter blackout occurs in a land of electric cars most of the population will perish in the freezing cold. The gas powered car that would provide cabin heat for many days will not be there. The electric car could only supply heat for a short time and would quickly discharge its battery making a trip to a shelter impossible.
