Not sure which tesla model 3 to buy? I consider every difference between the trims from the exterior, interior, range, acceleration and charging speeds. But my favourite comparison is the road trip simulation for which helps you decide with model 3 is best for you. Will it be the rwd tesla model 3? Or do you need all the range the long range model 3 will give you? Or will you point for pure performance? This video will help you make that buying decision.

In Canada with our long winters the advantage of the long range is in the AWD, the bonus is a lesser impact of range reduction due to the cold if I charge to 100%. My experience is that I lose 30% at -18C starting with a car in a heated garage. If I charge to 80% or 440 kms and only run it down to 20% charge I have a projected range of only 330 kms less the 30% cold weather penalty gets me down to 231 kms or 144 miles.

After yesterdays 300+ trip, just for a second there i started doubting my RWD purchase, but realized those long trips are only few times a month and one's stopping for a break/food anyways, so yeah unless one is driving 300+ miles all the time, RWD still is the best bang for the buck! Thanks for this useful video Adam!

I live in the US MD I bought my wife a Tesla model 3 rear drive and we both love it. For my wife and I we felt the long range or performance was a waste of money. If we make a trip we will be relaxing and enjoying ourselves we aren't going to be in a rush and we don't get enough snow for all wheel drive. Thank you 👍

Thanks for the comment 👍 I thought if heading to Glasgow, chances are you’d have some level 2 charging in place whether that be overnight at a hotel, or just whilst out and about. But ultimately, the concept is completely wide open to the individual including doing this. They can even test a route thats unique to them. Just trying to bring the transition alive and make it relatable as much as possible.

The Model 3 premium sound system was improved in 2021 with the addition of “Immersive Sound” audio engineering for a three-dimensional surround sound experience. Comparatively, the current base model has “Limited Immersive Sound”.

However, you can only have trackmode in the Tesla 3 performance. possibly with the Boost package for long range? . Among other things, you can adjust how much of the power should be on the rear wheels and how much power should be on the front wheels. and the purpose of the function must be to get a really good grip and road holding on a car track. the car also gets extra cooling. Then you can do things like burn rubber and skid if you want like on a petrol car
@Andersljungberg
@Andersljungberg Жыл бұрын
As far as I understand, this only applies to the Tesla 3 Longrange and Performance a sound and image magazine writes . The premium system has two so-called HD tweeters at the top of the A-pillars. They literally lift the sound image in the passenger compartment

Nice video again Adam. Very informative. I’ve FINALLY picked my model 3 up. I agree, there’s little difference in the models. Should I have gone for the std range? Probably. Would the LR been more suited as I do a lot of miles? Yes. Did I think “yeah but you want the performance”? Yes 😂 The model 3 performance it was then 😂😂😂
@Andersljungberg

Then you also have a setting for track mode. However, perhaps the comfort and durability of the tires may be worse due to 20 inch rims

@@Whoa42 if you’re trying to decide which model then I’d say that pick whatever u want. IMO the performance looks the best but the extra performance over the LR is minimal and you can’t realistically use them ‘fully’ on the roads(legally). Yes the 0-60 is fun but you’ll very easily and quickly be over the limit with either car. Let’s put it this way, if I were to buy again I’d be happy with the LR or performance. The Std wouldn’t suit my situation. Now we’re into winter I’m quite surprised how bad the drain is on the battery. It’s not a deal breaker but it something that I have to be aware of when on my travels. Eg I charged yesterday to 80% and the car said I’d have 30% remaining when I arrive at my destination. I actually arrived with 17%. I just need to make sure I have that little bit extra charge that’s all. The only 2 things I am concerned about is the depreciation and the value it at the end of my pcp. Also, anything going wrong with it and having to deal with Tesla service (I need to raise a warranty call but I’ve heard horror stories so am putting it off). Hope that helps

The long range is all wheel drive and the RWD is, of course, rear wheel drive. All wheel drive cars have better grip on wet surfaces, turning corners than an RWD. That's an important consideration if you are in an area where there is snow etc.

Adam, bring it to life :) Sadly a Tesla is beyond our means so have PXed our dying 2011 Skoda Yeti for a 2016 Suzuki Vitara paying £9k net. The Vitara is a huge leap forward tech wise (built in SatNav, Automatic, reversing camera, can play music from our iPod) which is nice but it is much noisier. The Vitara should easily last us 5 years by which time I'm hoping the Tesla model 2 will be available.

@AdamWellinformed
@AdamWellinformed Жыл бұрын
It’s just the RWD model variants at the moment. In the car, if you have the long range or performance variant it will show a trip allocation between 90-100%. This just encourages you to to charge within these limits when you genuinely are going that distance. LFP variants doesn’t have that recommendation on the battery screen.
@olmecST

I'm not sure why they suggest the performance for colder climates. The performance model doesn't come with all season tires and can be pricey because of the limited number of tires that fit. Extra expense before it's useful.

I think it strongly depends on the charging infrastructure in the place you live. For me longer range is important because there are places where I don't have superchargers available OR the ones close to my route require adding quite a lot km to the route. So having additional 100 km or so counts a lot. If there were more superchargers in my country I'd probably prefer RWD if only for the longevity and better safety of LFP batteries. The only concern left would be the fact that I live in mountain area and in winter time RWD might not be a good idea, even in a car with better weight distribution than your typical ICE car (I've had a RWD mercedes for a while and that was a nightmare in winter)

Great question, this wholly unique to an individual. In my case, I like sticking within warranty periods for peace of mind. I understand you can even extend your general warranty to if need be but for a fee. Range wise, I actually documented the reported range in my 12 month and 24 month ownership review. Im about 2.75 years into ownership now and I charged to 100% the other day and got more then I reported at the 2 year point 😂 So I wouldn’t worry to much about range, there’s a 8 year 100/120k milage warranty on the motor and battery pack if something goes horribly wrong. So you’re covered by that in extreme circumstances. Otherwise you can check out other owner reviews with high mileage if its helps 👍

The choice for me is just so difficult. The LR has always had my preference, but it falls just outside the subsidy range (capped at 45k). Due to that, the LR is not 9k more expensive but 12k more and I don't know if I can justify that amount of money for 4WD/acceleration and premium audio (I know there's a lot more differences but these I'd use the most). On the other hand I live in an apartment and cannot charge at home, so I'm wondering if LFP batteries will suit me since I won't be charging every night. Apparently Tesla recommends charging to 100% frequently.
@AdamWellinformed
@AdamWellinformed Жыл бұрын
Yeah I can see why your torn between both trims. Long range model 3 will be the superior car but as you mentioned the difference in price is definitely sizeable, then it becomes about justifying the price difference. Any luck on the inventory section?
@BlazingsNL
@BlazingsNL Жыл бұрын
@@AdamWellinformed If the LR fell within the 45k limit, the choice would've been a lot easier. But I don't see that happening, even with the rumored new model 3 coming up. Going for 39k or 51k means 30% more money over the standard version. Part of me wants to go all out in the assumption I'll be driving that car for a long time, but electric cars will probably develop quite fast in the coming years. The inventory is very limited. When I check 'all distances', there's only 1 LR model but it has full self driving so it's 7k more expensive. There are 10 standard versions but the cheapest one is 45.6k while ordering a brand new one is 42k? No idea how that works.
@AdamWellinformed
@AdamWellinformed Жыл бұрын
I guess with the rwd it has the LFP battery. Thus allowing 100% charging on the daily and it will retain its battery capacity better than the long range. Might seem crazy but have you filtered the inventory to used then by age? Whilst you will be the second owner I’ve seen some advertised with less milage on the clock then new inventory models 😂 not sure if they qualify for your local subsides?
@BlazingsNL
@BlazingsNL Жыл бұрын
@@AdamWellinformed It seems like all rdw have the LFP battery pack right now. Since I live in an apartment I won't be able to charge my car at home, so that sounds like a downside with LFP batteries that want to go to 100% as often as possible. There's literally only 1 used model listed and it's a 2019 LR with 30k km on the clock, for €42k. I'm definitely not getting a 2019 model haha. The subsidy for used cars is 2k this year, new EVs 3k.

Buying the right one would consist of not comparing either of these 2 models as they are not the redesigned project highland for the exact same price. Cooled seats, screen for back passengers, cameras 5mp not 1.3. Entire new suspension, and suspension mounting points. Full acoustic glass. If you are looking at either of the 23’ models and don’t consider the highland for the same price, you are doing yourself a disservice.

What you are shown in the program on the computer screen is unfortunately probably not true. It probably does not take into account things that can affect the range after the road, such as the weather. And charging speed is not constant from 0 to 100% and you don't always get Max speed. . The navigator in the car is probably better. and in reality the journey is guaranteed to take longer
@peterpetrov6522
@peterpetrov6522 11 ай бұрын
At this point unfortunately none of these models are adequate in really cold climates. Believe it or not there are places where the temperature stays below negative 20 Celsius for 6 months straight. So the long range will probably do 180 to 190 miles. That's all. Chargers could be 100 miles apart if you stay on the Interstate and major highways. So if you don't get range anxiety you are doing something wrong! BUT with all that said, in the spring the car will emerge from the snow as hot as ever! Elon is halfway there; hopefully he doesn't get distracted and keeps working on it.
