Great rocking version, with a fantastic band. David's solo has a ferocious, syncopated finale, and about as much energy as anyone could put into a piano solo. Vinnie is incredible, as usual. But the original live version - with Omar Hakim, Darryl Jones, Branford Marsalis, and of course Kenny Kirkland - is still untouchable. Kenny's solo will be studied for hundreds of years into the future.

Piano solo was just great, Vinnie Colaiuta is one of the best drummers ever (listen to a complete drum class in "seven days" by Sting also). A great band and Sting plays the bass with his thumb only!!

I like Kenny Kirkland's version better too, but this is still a frickin' hot solo. David Sancious is alright in my book. Hey he's jammin with Gordon Sumner!

@Randy Jones: I understand how music can move us. This was a great performance & personal to me as it's the only random radio call-in prize I ever 'won.' True Story: HS, Senior year, Tues. afternoon listening to a classic rock station, reading a Wizard magazine article about The Green Hornet b/c I knew little about him when the DJ comes on, "1st person 2 call & tell me the name of the Green Hornet's car wins The Soul Cages Live on VHS." >WTH?!< I dash 2 the phone, get through 1st & shout, "The Black Beauty!" DJ congratulates me, takes my address & sends me the tape. IKYN: I had JUST! learnt the answer 5mins prior in that magazine! There IS a God & he does have a sense of humor ;-)

Is another concept about armony. This armony is more about a minor color of chords. And Sanciou's solo is other concept. KK was a incredible soloist but it's no good the comparación. The music is art no competición

I would imagine that if an old band mate of mine did this "medley" approach to songs that we wrote together- it would really, really piss me off.
@skierpage7 жыл бұрын
yoursaxman But Sting is credited as sole writer of both songs. People come close to Andy Summers' fingering on "Bring On The Night", but nobody plays the high-hat on it like Stewart Copeland.

This is precisely the band that Sting brought when he performed in Mexico, I felt completely disappointed (except for the keyboardist who is wonderful, he also played in presentations with Peter Gabriel by the way), I felt very disappointed -I repeat- because with Except for the keyboard player, the other musicians have nothing to do with the Jazz musicians with whom he had recorded his first solo album, they are a true luxury! (Branford Marsalis, Omar Hakim, Darryl Jones) Why Sting, why did you do it? Was it the only thing you had enough money to come to the Mexican underdevelopment? 😥😥
