Branford Marsalis is responsible for so much of the sound of this album.

Never got to see the Police unfortunatly but saw this lineup on 9-14-85 in Toronto..one of the best gigs ever..I eventually wore out that Blue Turtles cassette !! Fantastic period for music and Sting's finest effort in my honest opinion..

As good as all of the other guys are, Sting has NEVER had a better band than this.

I'm not so sure. What I find so interesting about 80s sting - and this film was him at his solo apoapsis - is this weird paradox. The style borders on muzak, it's very much of its period and yet there's still something very magical in the arrangements; I much prefer this album's version of _Tea in the Sahara_ for example. This was the direction Sting always wanted, the control he ended The Police for. Was it worth it? Andy Summers didn't think so, and I'm not sure myself that this was the creative payoff he thought it would be. The friction and musical tension in The Police made something timeless.

Marvelous band. At the same time, you can take Copeland & Summers out of the band, but you can't take them out of the music.

Which original version. This is the original band unless you mean the Police who couldn’t play this type of stuff.
@briancrowley64134 жыл бұрын
when the rockumentary "bring on the night" was released in 1987... Sting established himself as a solo artist. In 2020, My hairline is better than his and is original.

Lucky, ducky, marginally-talented white guy to be surrounded by the ultra=creme of the crop of the finest American musicians of that era. He would be lost without them.

@nyabinghidjehutti88552 жыл бұрын
"Change how they played?!??" That's among the most arrogantly ignorant Eurocentric nonsense ever stated. His limited exposure to jazz betrays him. Plenty of jazz solos come burning out the gate. There's a difference between preparing for the gig and what a jazz player does on it. He had no idea the level of musicianship with which he had associated himself. Betcha he knows now and is embarrassed by many things he said in that docu.
