Sting....a true genius. Every line in this song is a metaphor.....sheer poetry......the guitar riff Segovia-esk. This track is from the album Ten Summoner's Tales. Every song on it is pure gold.

All they had to do was ask first, would have saved them some $$$. I have mixed feelings about "sampling" without permission. I don't have a problem with Sting wanting to protect his art .

I was on hiday when i was told my father (with whom i had an estranged relationship) had died. I was numb. The next day I was with my husband sunbathing and this came into my headphones. I sobbed for the next 2 days. Nearly 30 years on, it has the same effect. So so beautiful

The Album "Nothing Like the Sun" is a masterpiece. So is "Bring on the Night". There is a great documentary film of the same name "Bring on the Night" about the preparation for and on his first solo career concert. It is really good. Provides a lot of insight to his personality, and how he goes about arranging music. He is an absolutely brilliant writer/composer.

Sting said he didn't sue Juice. Also Sting sold his entire catalog to Universal so it would be them getting the money, not Sting.

The beautiful harmonica is played by the great Larry Adler. Really interesting how he incorporated traditional jewish music elements in his playing here and it fit in amazingly well. What a great song. My strongest recommendation to you for a sting song is Stevie Wonder's performance of "Fragile" along with Sting on 60'th birthday concert - one of the most beautiful things my ears have ever heard. Also, If you happen to be a "lyrics guy" - I highly HIGHLY recommend that you react to Sting's "Mad About You" which is literally poetry in a pop song.

I got to see Paul Simon sing Fragile when he toured with Sting. (Sting did Bridge Over Troubled Water.) So great. But I actually prefer Sting's Portuguese version, Frágil. (He also did it in Spanish, Fragilidad.

Paul Simon was the musical genius combining new sounds..have you heard Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes ?... Thanks for visiting the older artists...🌿🌿🌿

Sting covered Elton John & Bernie Taupin's Come Down in Time. It's so wonderful to hear that song so stripped down to the basics, with just Elton on piano and Sting on double bass & vocals. I love the original, but the cover is so good. So many good songs in Sting's catalog.

To me "sampled" is just a word used by people who can't manufacture their own tunes.
@n_other_1604 Жыл бұрын
That's how I would suscribe covering. Sampling after all was a way to make music if you haven't enough money to effort instruments & really got going when Reagan defunded schools leading to cutting of music programs & access to instruments. But yes some if not many are too lazy to come up with something themselves.

Personally I hate sampling because so many younger people have no idea it IS from someone else's music and have usually never even heard of the original artist, so they miss out on so much music they will never hear but always think these younger artists created. If you're gonna sample, it should be clearly noted somehow so this younger generation can go hear all these great bands and artists they never knew about who originally put the music out. And yes artists do take from each other and sometimes end up paying a hefty legal price for it, but like you yourself said, for younger people to not even know this music was someone else's first is really a shame because they might appreciate music of so many different genres if they had a chance to explore original artists more.
