Um, no. Sting doesn't sample anyone. They sample him. And that's his BACK YARD in the beginning of the video. Yes, he wrote this.

I watched an interview with Sting about this album and where his musical ideas came from. He said on reflection, many of the ideas originated from the music of J S Bach.
@MartinGsl10 ай бұрын
It's not sampled from another song, more likely the other way around. Christina Aguileras "Genie in a Bottle" is from 1999. "Shape of My Heart" is from 1993. And yes, that part is very much the same.

The guitarist playing that "sample" is Dominic Miller, the guy who wrote it! You're hearing the original. Everyone else has sampled it from this song. While a great song, Thats an opinion, & my opinion is that there are many sting songs every bit as amazing, & some even better....& if ur basing ur opinion on the fact that its been "sampled a lot", thats your point of view, but also a pretty weak prerequisite to attaining greatness, any tom, dick & harry can sample something....& also, many god awful & horrible songs have been sampled too. Unless ur cutting a sample up to make a new riff or a new beat, sampling (in my opinion) is a pretty retarded, & lazy practice.

Hey Bisscute! Thanks for this reaction to my hero Sting, hope to discover a lot more of your videos about him now and in the future :) The guitar part, quite obviously the center and foundation of the song, was written by Sting's long time guitar player Dominic Miller. He actually invented it as a kind of exercise, then Sting heard it and came up with the lyric. Like others already wrote in the comments, it has been featured on many other songs since then, with or without Sting's participation. Like Craig David Rise and fall, Sugababes Shapes, or lately Juice WRLD Lucid dreams.
