The guitarist playing that "sample" is Dominic Miller, the guy who wrote it! You're hearing the original. Everyone else has sampled it from this song. Sting's lyrics are always great, he's a master storyteller. Check out his songs "When We Dance" and "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" for a couple more brilliant ones. But he's got so many!

The chord progression that Dominic Miller made for this song is amazing, it surely inspired Christina Aguilera and many others in their songs. While a great song, Thats an opinion, & my opinion is that there are many sting songs every bit as amazing, & some even better....& if ur basing ur opinion on the fact that its been "sampled a lot", thats your point of view, but also a pretty weak prerequisite to attaining greatness, any tom, dick & harry can sample something....& also, many god awful & horrible songs have been sampled too. Unless ur cutting a sample up to make a new riff or a new beat, sampling (in my opinion) is a pretty retarded, & lazy practice.

Lyrically Sting is one of the best in not only his solo, but his Police writing too. But he is just as prolific in his musical writing.. chord usage, bridge creation, tempo changes, he is genius. No, it is NOT sampled from another song....maybe another song sampled from this song. (Btw, to me..."sampling" is just a nice way of saying "stealing".) Sting writes his own songs...no "sampling".) I think she actually meant other songs have sampled this one not that this is sampled from another song. Nearly all samples of well known songs have to be agreed with the artist/record label before use, it's using the same chords and tune in a song which is really just copying and not sampling that I think is more of a problem, but sometimes it's more of a mistake or coincidence than stealing. Of course there are cases where songs are sampled or copied on purpose which is wrong

Fun fact: Other famous people that have sampled Sting and refused to pay were P Diddy (missing you song), who after losing to him court has to pay Sting the equivalent of thousands per day!
